Great!
Review of Philips DVD-R 3480 by peteandcesca

Advantages: Great quality on picture and sound and easy to use
Disadvantages: Have to watch the channel you are recording if from a cable channel

...and chose to purchase the Philips DVDR3480. The player in terms of style is very sleek - it has a black finish on the cover wih the dvd slot on the left hand side and the display bit next to this. On the far right hand side is a small flap that covers the ports for the usb, audio and the connections for the scart to connect to a games console or camcorder. To install is very simple with a quick set up guide supplied in the box - the only thing is ...
...from USB flash drives Philips DVD Recorders support 'dual media'™ recording - the ability to create recordings on DVD+R/RW, DVD-R/RW and DVD+R DL discs. Now you can buy any disc and the Philips 'recorder will always create fully compatible recordings, which can be played by any DVD player. We haven't had the chance to try out such things as connecting a camcorder to check the quality of this feature but have used the USB port to view pictures taken ... Read review

Great value for money
Review of Sony RDR-GX 350 by ninjatech

Advantages: Sony quality
Disadvantages: More inputs on back, just has Scart with S-Video on front of unit

Very happy with the unit, no problems so far (had it 2 weeks). I've got mine recording from a PVR (Virgin Cable) - got it for £80 so don't need the digital tuner, recording quality ok over RGB Scart from the PVR. I've go the unit outputting to the HD TV through component, upscaling seems to work quite well, overall I think original movie DVD playback is certainly better than my last player (nothing special, old Samsung). You need to use either the ...
...of the upscaling feature of the player. I've just been using Verbatim 16 speed DVD-R and DVD-RW discs (not +) and had no compatibility issues so far using DVD's I've made on this unit in other DVD players. I've had issues using the DVD+ discs in the past with compatibility. To clarify on the previous review, the specs of the unit claim it will burn to all + and - DVD's including R and RW. Just to clarify on the spec: REAR: HDMI out (with 1080p ... Read review

Short Review
Review of Panasonic DMR-EZ 27 by Martyn79

Advantages: EP 8 Hour recording compatability
Disadvantages: Poor Programming and DVD record Quality

...of worst purchases ever, the Panasonic DMR-EZ 27, is just poor quality for today's market, chapter creation is poor, the overall recording is very poor to say the least, and the menus, including the TV guide for free view, look like something from the dark ages, like the old BBC Square computers some of us had at school. I think Panasonic have thrown this one together, the colour and design is quite nice, but I think more though should have been ... Read review

A good player, with a few teething troubles
Review of Philips DVDR 5500 by sue-a

Advantages: Freeview, divX playback, USB slot
Disadvantages: Occasional freezing

I bought this product from Laskys in November 2007 for around £135. I was very impressed with the spec - ability to play divx files, as well as freeview and a usb socket. The manual is thorough and easy to follow, although set-ups which involve several other players or set-top boxes may be a bit complicated. The machine can be used as a digital freeview box if you don't have one, but I rarely use this feature as my tv is digital. The initial set-up ...
...but then froze up and none of the buttons worked. I checked the manual and this was covered by the troubleshooting - simply unplug and allow the recorder to reset. I did this and it worked fine. However, it has done it again several times since. I'm not sure if this is going to be a continuing problem but it has been freeze-free for a couple of weeks now so fingers crossed. Recording is on DVD+/-R or RW and DVD+R DL discs. The manual provides a ... Read review

Good product at a decent price.
Review of LG Electronics DR 275 by roberto900

Advantages: Reliable DVD player/recorder with great features at a very reasonable price.
Disadvantages: Has been surpassed by other models and newer technology.

...begin with, I purchased an LG DR 275 DVD recorder about 6 months ago now and had being using it frequently until I upgraded to Sky+. It is still in use but just doesn't record very much these days. I would reccommed people buy the player but not if they are looking for the height of DVD player technology.. This is a very standard, functional and effective DVD player/recorder but is not the most modern in terms of cutting edge technology because it ...
...files on high-speed connections. The LG DR 275 allows these files to be played on your TV. Other features of the player are the ability to listen to songs in either MP3 or WMA format, frame by frame playback, parental controls which use codes to restrict access to different features and RGB Output for improved picture quality. The Prices: There are loads of deals out there on this product now. The best price available is £75 from either beyondtelevision.co.uk ... Read review
