Review of Pioneer DVR-545HX-S by pauljohnson

Advantages: Great quality, lots of useful features
Disadvantages: Takes a lot of time to work out how to use!

...programmes for viewing and recording. Also films and sport are shown in different colours so are easy to pick out. The remote link function is also handy. It means the DVR can be hidden from view and the remote operated via the TV remote sensor (if a pioneer TV). ... Read review

Time to save shelf space.
Review of Pioneer DVR 440 HX S by slavinvorlon

Advantages: Records to both HDD and DVD,Freeview
Disadvantages: Not HD ready,Discontinued model

I have owned a HDD freeview recorder for moore than 2 years now (Humax PVR 800T). brought before twin tuner HDD devices existed within my price bracket. I needed ,Wanted to save a few films and TV programmes I had on the HDD.I also wished to transfer recordings I have on video tape onto DVD. So went out and about searching for a DVD recorder with a HDD and freeview tuner and came across this model. Set up was easy and navigating wasnt too hard ...
...thick...thats because you can do so much with this piece of equipment...and I recommend being patient and reading it all and keeping it to hand for a few days till you have acclimatised yourself to how to get the best from it. There are two internal tuners one is freeview the other is analog which will be redundant in under 3 years from now but a handy choice to have in the meantime. I dont think there is any DVD disc format the DVD player will ... Read review

The Sony 'RDR-GXD360
Review of Sony RDR-GXD360 by womblebatman

Advantages: simple to set up and use, great recording quality
Disadvantages: slower than a drunk snail, no HDMI

I recently aquired a Sony DVD recorder (RDR-GXD360). The Sony has freeview built in and a good reputation for audio visual quality. Set up was easy, I used the smart link connection between DVD and TV which means you can operate alot of the TV functions by the DVD remote which saves on fiddling around with two handsets. There's no hard drive but you can record onto most DVD media except dual-layered DVD-R and DVD-RAM discs. It has a number of recording ...
...of anonying traits with the Sony however. The first being how long it takes to load a disc and then to shut down, it's very slow and seems to make lots of noise doing it, the cooling fan makes a noise most of the time There's also the fact that it has no HDMI connection. I recently brought a LCD 'HDMI' TV so I was a bit disappointed that I couldn't use that feature. In light of the present advances in technology the Sony appears a bit dated, obviously ... Phillips DVD Player - Brilliant
Review of Philips DVD-R 3480 by chrisattrill

Advantages: Looks good, Loads of features
Disadvantages: Expensive, Quite big

I bought this product a few days ago and I thinks its brilliant. In terms of the looks its stylish, and sleek. Not only you can you watch DVD in HD but also you can pause live TV, record it on its 160 gig hard drive and store photos and videos. For the price I feel it was a little too much. I paid £140 at Sainsbury. But looing at sources you can get it for much less (£80 - £100) I would reconmend this product to anyone who likes whatching TV and ...
...a hifi. It is east to set up, just connect the two wires (included) to the back of the TV. Next you just follow the simple instructions to add channels. You can also add VCR players and also a Top Up Box. All of the things to make this product work is inclueded even the bays for the remote. So what are you waiting for! Get buying ... Read review

Sony DVD/HDD
Review of Sony RDR-HXD 870 by skleen

Advantages: Easy to use with long record time on the HDD
Disadvantages: none

What a piece of kit this is, it is so simple to use and set up. It had lots of really good features and a long recording time on the hard disk. There are lots of different settings for recording quality and time but when you get down to the low end then the recording time might be high but the quality of the picture is not really watchable. We have it set so that there is approximately 250 hours worth of record time and this gives a picture quality ...
...is the USB input so you can use it and your TV like a very large digital photo frame, the only downside is I have not been able to download onto the USB which would be useful as some USB sticks are large enough to take a small movie. The DVD player and recorder both work well and so far we have had no problems with it and would recommend to anyone looking for a HDD and DVD setup. ... Read review
