GO away from SONY RDR-VX410 or VX500
Review of Sony RDR-VX 410 by didierbzh

Advantages: No one
Disadvantages: Doesn't work

...also have Video recorder from SONY and I can see very clearly the difference of quality in reading the same tape on both equipments. Nearly impossible to transfer Tape to DVD , SONY copy protection system is not working properly (even with my own video it says that it is write protected). The only think I succeed to record was a film from the TV, that works good... but it's not for that I bought this DVD. Also I didn't anyway to turn this DVD ... Read review

Sony recordable DVD player.
Review of Sony RDRGX3 by Montison

Advantages: Recording has never been so easy, with excellent picture and sound.quality.
Disadvantages: Cooling fan can be heard at times during operation.

When my 13 year old Sony Video recorder stopped working, I decided to upgrade to a recordable DVD machine. Connecting the player to the TV was easy as all the sockets are clearly labelled along with clear instructions, At first swithch on, the player automatically sets itself up with little imput from the user and all the settings can be altered later if needs be. Playing a pre-recorded disc is the same as an ordinary player. Recording a program ...
...to use a digital TV with 'smart-link'. This works by choosing the program to record from a menu screen on the TV. You can use the numbers printed in TV guides which is very quick as well. It is also possible to do a manual program record. When used with a digital TV, if a program starts late, recording won't start until the new start time. The remote control allows easy access to all the playback / record options. Discs recorded on this machine ... Read review

The Daily Record
Review of Sony RDR GX210 by Stg27

Advantages: Value for money
Disadvantages: None

A good looking and reasonably small model which suited our needs perfectly. The recorder is easy to set up and connect with an easy to follow manual and auto set up features. The ability to record in dual format is very handy as i never buy the same discs each time and just get what is cheapest in front of me. This model also offers a wide range of compatible playback options including our 8cm dvds from our camcorder. The remote control is a bit ...
...prefer to just point and play/record. I also make errors on my timer set ups because no matter how amny times I set it I press the 'enter' button which seems logical but in fact wipes your entry! A design fault or my fault? You decide. It has served us well for 18 months but internet research reveals common faults with these machines after about 2 years. I'm waiting for ours to pack in but still going at the moment. ... Read review

All I wanted for Xmas was....
Review of Sony SONY RDRHX900 by neukenuk

Advantages: Plug-in and ready to go near enough
Disadvantages: Smart Link is not that Smart

...a near enough a complete Sony household, so when I plugged in the DVD to the TV and the the AV, the TV and DVD talked to each other straight the way. The TV downloaded all its known channels to the Video so there was no need for me to do a scan of channels, and do other bits of niggly configuration. The good bit is that when I am recording off standard analogue TV, it will pickout the programmes name from teletext and name the programme. So when ...
...What would I change... Sony should have built in a digital tuner into it. They should know by now that Digital/Freeview is on the rise, and the government and other broadcaster will be eager to switch off the analogue signal before long. Please note my experience of this equipment may not be your as we all have different set ups, but the performance of the box is commendable. And I like the fact you can record on HDD and watch a DVD at the same ... Read review

Very useful piece of kit
Review of Sony RDR-GX3 by 03bintls

Advantages: Titling of recordings
Disadvantages: Slow to load up

This recorder has been out on the market for a while now, but even today, I cannot think of anything which will improve it. It is relatively big and heavy, but dont let this put you off. All your recordings are automatically titled with the name of the program and date. Of course you can change this if you want. A clear menu shows you all the different programs on your disc - just scroll to the one you want to watch and click. Simple. The inputs ...
...recording straight off camcorders and other players, saves you having to route around at the back for connections. Its fast-forwarding, playback etc is faultless, and handles audio discs just as well as video. The negative point is that it takes ages for a disc to load up and be watchable. To be honest you dont really get used to this either, and it can cause you to miss the start of some programs if you record them manually. This maybe the same ... Read review
