Review of Samsung DVD-R 149 by
AndyK000
Advantages: ???
Disadvantages: Nearly everything
I bought this DVD recorder after returning my old one to the shop because it didn't work properly. I thought, well hoped that this one would be better. I was wrong.
Every time i put a disc in it the DVD recorder would freeze and not do anything for 10 minutes. When I tried to play CDs on it a message came up saying that there was an error and guess what... it would freeze again.
When it came to recording on it, the shop i bought it from were advertising ... ...but it doesn't, it just records on dvd-r. So this was no good when it came to trying to record a film that night, as I only had dvd+r. So I had to record it old school on a VCR. When I got some discs that would work and recorded something on it, Yet another disappointment. The picture quality was really bad. The picture was blurry and the the audio was out of sync.
The only good thing I found about this DVD recorder is that it looks quite stylish, ...

Cheap but functional dvd recorder
Review of Alba RDVR1006 by
cmulc1
Advantages: Easy to use . Cheap and reliable , Editing functions
Disadvantages: Lacks high functions , slightly on the large side.
I bought this dvd recorder from asda as a replacement to a cyberhome model which constantly didn't recoginise discs and was exchanged at asda for this model. . After 2 months I'm very satisfied with my purchase. First of all the price for £60 I've got a recorder with 5 different recording speeds which are able to put 6 hours on a disc. The device comes with 2 scart sockets at the back , ideal for connecting a sky/digital box.
The onscreen menu's ... ...minutes for it to automatically scan the channels
The tuner is of good qualityand has picked up quite a lot of extra regional channels that our tv hasn't found. . The remote control is fairly cheap looking but is functional. The blue standby light on the front of the recorder is quite bright and to be honest slightly annoying , this changes to red when recording. However the clock is quite difficult to read when in bright daylight. It is also a ...

Sleak And Sexy, Just Like Me!
Review of Samsung DVD-R 128 by
sghawken
Advantages: Highly durable machine
Disadvantages: None, it even survives long drops
I recently purchased the Samsung DVD-R128. I had simple requirements, it needed to be cheap (this was a secondary recorder), it needed to be of a certain size (due to the space it was to fill in a piece of furniture), and most importantly it needed to record in the - format. The main brand you find that falls into these requirements is LiteON, but I had just encountered a nasty situation with two different models of LiteOn product, that meant after ... ...with them. However this model Samsung machine stood out, it met all my requirements, plus my very first DVD player was a Samsung and almost 10 years on it still works fine.
Ok so lets get technical for a second; the recorders vital statistics were size and this model sits with a width of 43 cm, and a height of 4.9 cm; these dimensions mean that I can get my Telewest box, and my DVD recorder in a space in a bedroom unit, typically designed to fit ...

Great for its features, not so for the reliability
Review of Liteon HD-A 740 GX by
theoldgoat
Advantages: DVD-DL recording, optical output, DVD-R and DVD-+R, lots of features
Disadvantages: DVD drive reliabilty, can't watch and record at same time
I originally bought the Liteon LVW-5045GDL+ model fro Currys Digital a coupld of years ago when they were doing it on promotion for whatever football cup was on.
We used it for several months without problems, recording to both the HDD and DVDs, and playing many DVDs - both commercial and home-burned.
After about 8 months, the DVD suddenly stopped recognising blank DVDs. I took it back to Currys, who replaced it with the HD-A 740 GX model they ... ...really don't get this as Liteon have a great reputation for their optical drives in PCs!
Anyway, aside from this, the 740 is a great DVD recorder - it can record to Dual-layer DVDs, has optical output for home cinema, can be firmware upgraded, and has a pretty decent - if complex - menu system.
Avoid using the EP and SLP modes - the picture quality is a bit jagged at times.
Some makes of DVDs are simply not recognised, but that's really not big ...
