My review on the Samsung DVD-SH897M

Advantages: very easy use
Disadvantages: bit on the expensive size

this has to be my best DVD player i have ever bought in my life! it has everything i need, massive 320 GB memory for all my recording needs i can record hours and hours of TV shows that i would hate to miss but i can record and a touch of a button. I love the way the DVD player is so simple to use and can be worked with ease (not like my grandmas DVD player, i'm going to smash that thing up ) all the buttons are clearly laid out and easy to see. ...

Review of Samsung DVD-SH893

My black box.

Advantages: Great picture and sound quality and easy to use.
Disadvantages: None really.

...choice this time was the LG RHT497H, I purchased this about four weeks ago for a little over £180 and have so far enjoyed using it and the picture quality it serves up is excellent. The LG RHT497H has a built in freeview tuner but can of course be linked up to Sky or Cable services allowing you to record from those instead, the recorder is also HD so it is capable of recording HD images from the HD channels should you have them, I have recorded Sky Sports in HD and it looks every bit as good played back as it does straight from the live presentation. Review of LG RHT497H

Philips DVDR 3380 solid buy

Advantages: good dvd playback, good DivX playback
Disadvantages: slow startup, below average browser system

My experience with Philips has always been, that they have good solid hardware, that can do the job above average. That being said I feel that they lack a little on the software side. The Philips DVDR 3380 is in my opinion true to that form. It is somewhat slow in startup, but has given me no problems with any of my dvds. Another thing it does fairly well is the DivX vids...most of what I got is playable... only picture compression can cause problems ...

Good format support and cool features.

Advantages: Good range of supported formats, good quality recording, easy to use
Disadvantages: Strange "staying on" issue, no HDMI input

I brought this DVD player a year ago when moving into a new flat with my partner. It records several DVD formats and can play back DVD's and CD's. It can also be used as a Digital Tuner if the TV does not have its own.
