this has to be my best DVD player i have ever bought in my life! it has everything i need, massive 320 GB memory for all my recording needs i can record hours and hours of TV shows that i would hate to miss but i can record and a touch of a button. ...choice this time was the LG RHT497H, I purchased this about four weeks ago for a little over £180 and have so far enjoyed using it and the picture quality it serves up is excellent.
I should probably give a mention to the TV I have it attached to before I go much further just so as you know exactly what I am using and then you do not expect the same picture quality from a 14 inch CRT portable. My TV is a Samsung next generation 63 inch crystal plasma ... ...for someone else. The LG RHT497H has a built in freeview tuner but can of course be linked up to Sky or Cable services allowing you to record from those instead, the recorder is also HD so it is capable of recording HD images from the HD channels should you have them, I have recorded Sky Sports in HD and it looks every bit as good played back as it does straight from the live presentation.

Review of LG RHT497H
Advantages: None Disadvantages: Configuration lost on power failure, timeshift function only works on the aerial!
Have just bought a Samsung DVD-SH895. This, and I'm advised by Samsung UK, and any Samsung recording device has one serious fault - on power failure the configuration is not saved and the device will reset to its default settings. In other words the system clock will reset to Jan 01 2000 0h 0m 0s and any recordings you set will not happen. This particular device also has another fault that you'll not find in the User Manual. The "Timeshift" function ... ...a satellite connection and you're watching it and the phone rings you can't use this function to record the programme and then come back to where you left off. It's a shame as in all other respects this is a good recorder. I'm in the process of returning the DVD recorder as I don't think it's fit for purpose. ...

I've owned the Bush DVHRS02 for a few years now. In this review I will tell you what I think of it. For a start the VCR is very good with great pictures both recording and playing back. The deck looks quite expensive (it is) and the remote is easy to use, responsive and well thought out. The player is easy to make region free and the menu system is a doddle to use. Finally, DVD Playback is good via RGB Scart. However this deck has a major flaw, it's ... ...find dozens of forums reguarding problems with it. It's always freezing, Crashing, Forgetting to Record or not displaying recordings on a DVD. The DVD recordings look poor as well. The input scart can't accept RGB and there's no Composite output. The unit isn't cheap either at over £200! Overall even if the deck gets off to a good start with playback quality and a decent VCR this is all destroyed by the reliability problems and poor quality DVD Deck. ...
