Phillips DVD Player - Brilliant
Review of Philips DVD-R 3480 by
chrisattrill
Advantages: Looks good, Loads of features
Disadvantages: Expensive, Quite big
I bought this product a few days ago and I thinks its brilliant. In terms of the looks its stylish, and sleek. Not only you can you watch DVD in HD but also you can pause live TV, record it on its 160 gig hard drive and store photos and videos. For the price I feel it was a little too much. I paid £140 at Sainsbury. But looing at sources you can get it for much less (£80 - £100)
I would reconmend this product to anyone who likes whatching TV and ... ...a hifi. It is east to set up, just connect the two wires (included) to the back of the TV. Next you just follow the simple instructions to add channels. You can also add VCR players and also a Top Up Box. All of the things to make this product work is inclueded even the bays for the remote.
So what are you waiting for! Get buying ...

A good player, with a few teething troubles
Review of Philips DVDR 5500 by
sue-a
Advantages: Freeview, divX playback, USB slot
Disadvantages: Occasional freezing
I bought this product from Laskys in November 2007 for around £135. I was very impressed with the spec - ability to play divx files, as well as freeview and a usb socket.
The manual is thorough and easy to follow, although set-ups which involve several other players or set-top boxes may be a bit complicated. The machine can be used as a digital freeview box if you don't have one, but I rarely use this feature as my tv is digital.
The initial set-up ... ...but then froze up and none of the buttons worked. I checked the manual and this was covered by the troubleshooting - simply unplug and allow the recorder to reset. I did this and it worked fine. However, it has done it again several times since. I'm not sure if this is going to be a continuing problem but it has been freeze-free for a couple of weeks now so fingers crossed.
Recording is on DVD+/-R or RW and DVD+R DL discs. The manual provides a ...

Philips DVDR5520H
Review of Philips DVDR 5520H by

Advantages: Excellent video recording and playback
Disadvantages: Maybe a little pricey compared to some but worth it
RECOMMENDED.
VERY well speced. Performance of the unit is just excellent.
I received this in replacement for my faulty dvdr3450H which was - frankly - rubbish and kept breaking down all the time, so avoid them like the plauge! Video is sharp and clear when recorded from analogue or freeview
and it works nicely with both sky and cable tv.
Pauses live tv, has progressive scan and will upgrade normal dvd
to high definition 1080 for use on your ... ...of the Rings and Star Wars dvd's and he results were just excellent ! Sound through my Kenwood / Mission / Eltax home cinema set up was just superb.
You can even skip commercials when you play back programmes from hard drive, record onto both - and + dvd blanks (both R & RW) so no format worries and it will play DIVX as smooth as glass.
It has full media jukebox system which allows you to store music, video and photos onto the hard disc, can record ...

Great value for money, does what its supposed to
Review of Philips DVDR 3305 by
Danny.B
Advantages: Good quality unit, top quality recording, versatile with blank media
Disadvantages: Badly designed remote, can be slow to respond when starting up
...The main feature with this Philips one was the flexibility of media it can record onto, it can record (and play) DVD+ and - R and RW, which means you can pretty much stick any writable DVD into it and it will allow you to record onto it.
The unit was very simple to setup and has a good range of connections, including component inputs on the front to allow you to connect camcorders or component cables from games consoles into the DVD recorder. The ... ...out and RF loop sockets. The unit is particularly brilliant as it allows you to connect any external TV boxes, i.e. Sky or Freeview into the DVD recorder first and then use one scart cable into the television. Even when the DVD recorder is turned off, it will allow the freeview/sky loop to continue into the television, no need to have 2 scarts into your TV, I found this particularly useful as I can now have audio out into my subwoofer hi-fi (for ...
