Easy to use, good value for money
Advantages: Slim line, attractive design Disadvantages: Can skip frames even on highest quality
If you're just looking for a simple DVD recorder to record programmes or films and watch them back later on, so you don't miss your favourite programmes, you can't really go wrong with this. It's not too high tech and it's easy to install, especially if you are using SCART leads. You can connect toyour freeview/cable/digital box and record from there, you just have to make sure you've got it on the right channel and that you need to switch off your ... ...does mean that you can't really use the time shift function however.
It looks good too, which always nice. It's not a clunky piece of machinery taking up space.
I've not had any major problems with my recorder yet (had it a couple of months) and any issues I've had with it, I've been able to work out myself what went wrong, so all in all, I'd be happy to recommend it. ...

Philips DVDR 3380 solid buy
Advantages: good dvd playback, good DivX playback Disadvantages: slow startup, below average browser system
My experience with Philips has always been, that they have good solid hardware, that can do the job above average. That being said I feel that they lack a little on the software side. The Philips DVDR 3380 is in my opinion true to that form. It is somewhat slow in startup, but has given me no problems with any of my dvds. Another thing it does fairly well is the DivX vids...most of what I got is playable... only picture compression can cause problems ...

cozy nights in
Advantages: easy to use great picture quality Disadvantages: a little costly
Samsung DVD-SH895
This HDD ready DVD player is quite impressive although it is a tad costly, you can find it at Tesco’s for £199 and may pay a little more at other stores such as Curry’s or Comet. Although having said that if you go to the checkout at Comet and tell them you’ve found it cheaper elsewhere they wil look it up on their computers and match the price, I have done this several times at Comet and they have always matched the price of other ... ...and compare prices.
The Samsung DVD is black and has built in freeview, which saves on buying two items separately. Its easy to set up, just plug in and go to the menu to tune in the free view and away you go. The quality of the picture is excellent, I noticed the difference in quality straight away, the picture is cleared and crisp.
It doesn’t come with extra scart leads though so you have to buy these separately.
It has a CD ripping function ...

I dare you to press RECORD
Advantages: The ability to transfer VHS to DVD Disadvantages: Sometimes graphics never turn out the way you want them to
This review is for the Toshiba RD XV47-K-TE multifunction DVD player and recorder. Setup ------------ Well the DVD player is pretty easy to get ready but you will take a while to sort out the options. You plug the mains into the socket and you just have to wait for the system to load up. You find the right channel usually for me it would be an AV scart section and you have a blue screen pop up. You use the remote control to select options such ... ...recorder to actually find channels which is not advisable as will be explained later on. Once the settings are done you can then go ahead and play anything you wish to on this system without any hassle at all. Design ----------- The DVD recorder is mainly black which is perhaps obviously from the picture. On the front you have the main buttons and functions; you have the opening for the DVD's to be placed into and a VHS opening as well for ...

Great recorder for simpletons like me
Advantages: Easy to use. Recordings automatically start at the right time. Disadvantages: Can't watch one channel and record another.
...just hasn't happened with the Sony and I've had it for about ten weeks now. The on-screen menus are so straightforward that even I can't get it wrong. Another thing I like about it is that it seems to start the recording at the exact right moment, even if the program starts a bit late. It's great not having to put tapes in and this thing has an enormous capacity. Another great feature is 'catchup' - you can start watching a recording before it has ... ...feature. I also like having four fast forwarding speeds.
My main complaint is that (as far as I can tell) it can't record one program while I watch another program on a different channel. The little display that shows what channel you've just switched to is a bit small, and when you turn on the program guide you lose the sound for a few seconds, but these are minor gripes.
The main thing is that it is reliable and easy to use so I'd recommend it. ...
