Moral - know what you want before you buy it.
Review of Funai DRVR-B778 by nemo183

Advantages: It's cheap.
Disadvantages: Simple to use - I don't think so.

This is just the shortest of reviews because I noticed that reviews for it were a little thin. I promise to replace this with a more comprehensive effort after more use. What did I want? A quick way of copying old VCR tapes to DVD. Did I get this? No. Main problem - given you have a VCR, and a blank DVD, it would seem logical that it was possible to plug in the box, and press a few buttons - or even use the remote. Not possible. The commands and ...
...end of the world, but anyone with a DVD, VCR, Digibox etc., will know that just finding a way to plug anything new in is a pain. I eventually found a spare TV, not used for anything, and got started. It wasn't the hardest process, but not exactly what you'd call user friendly. With a broadcast quality VCR, the conversation to DVD worked well. The poorer the VCR, the poorer the DVD. My personal opinion is that the set-up and manual are not that ... Read review

Review of Funai DBVR 5700 by 6719jason

Advantages: none
Disadvantages: expensive and rubbish

Got this vcr in april 2007, so far it is ok but lacks even basic feature which to be honest when you have paid £78 you expect more than just basics. I unpacked it and plugged it in only to find that it was faulty so i had to take it back. Picked up new one unpacked, plugged it in fine it played dvd but only ones that i have purchased from the shop it would not except home photo movies yet even my other tesco £20 reads them perfect. The zoom feature ... Read review

Sony RDR-HXD-890 Hard Drive & DVD Recorder
Review of Sony RDR-HXD890 by derek-j-a

Advantages: Record to hard drive, DVD drive, watch and record at the same time.
Disadvantages: I needed to read the instruction manual!

...what was available. Being a Sony lover I was impressed by the RDR-HXD-890, one of the latest hard disk drive/DVD recorders from Sony's Range. It seems that black is back in vogue which I have always preferred; when I bought the last recorder, all I could get was silver, but there is a choice of black or silver with the RDR-HXD-890. When I got the machine home, I discovered that there were so many options on this machine that I had to sit down and ...
...lot different to my last Sony machine. The RDR-HXD-890 has a built in digital tuner for freeview, and an analogue connector for those who cannot yet receive a digital signal. It has two scart lead connections and HDMI output to connect to a high definition television. The machine has a 160GB hard disk drive and a DVD Recorder. The hard drive will store a maximum recording of up to 455hours and 23hours in HQ+ recording mode. There is a button on ... Read review
