Wharfedale DVDR25HD250F
Review of Wharfedale DVDR24HD250F by kindlyraccoon

Advantages: Big hard drive and DVD record also HD ready, upscalling
Disadvantages: Difficult menu system, bright blue light on front distracting,

OK, I have only had this unit for one week now and to really truthfull, I wish I had not bought it. Lets start with the outside of the unit. It looks nice being all black because it fits in nicelly under my tv. Now the negative part. When the unit is switched on and is in the standby mode, you have a bright blue light from the power button on the front right side. When the unit is on this light goes off. I thought it should be the other way round. ...
...watching anything where you want the lights out. It is so much so that I have actually put a small peice of sticky tape over most of the light and left maybe a pinhead size showing so you know its powered. The numbers on the readout or small enough to make you squint at them to read if you are sitting, like me, 12 feet away. There is no option to make them bigger or indead make the blue light less bright. When you start the installation process you ... Read review

Rebadged LG unit reborn as lemming
Review of Sony RDR GX210 by katoosh525

Advantages: None that I can see, other than it is no longer made
Disadvantages: waste of resources and money.

...I pay the premium for Sony if I wanted an LG??? Frankly this would not matter if it actually worked. First failed after 1 month, second after 18 months. Just bought a Panasonic DMREZ27 which cost less (with 5 year warranty), works better and appears to be made by Panasonic. Absolutely gutted that Sony would do this, gone from lifelong Sony fan to never again. Check internet to confirm these failures, all laser heads. Cost > 100 to repair, so not ... Read review

Feeling Blue?
Review of Sharp AQUOS BD-HP1 by sghawken

Advantages: The best (apparently) of the standalone Blueray players
Disadvantages: This is no major advancement from DVD

...world of Blueray if the Sharp Aquos is worth the money. When it comes to Blueray there is a cloud of haze that surrounds the format, generally you don't ask questions because it almost seen as if you should know, rather like sex or kissing when you're at school. Go into an electrical showroom and ask questions, the sales assistant might well look at you like your not quite there, or as if you really should know the answers to the questions. So to ...
...While I'm told that the Sharp Aquos is a great player (at the time of writing August 2008) I still do not believe the time is right for Blueray. I really cannot see the benefit, you need to be a real techno geek to isolate the differences, and for all the technological advances you're almost taking a step back. A DVD has just over 4 gigabytes of space to fill, and a Blueray disc has 40 gigabytes to fill; yes with this advance you get less for your ... Read review

Advantages: Cost ... All in one package!
Disadvantages: Its not a Sony lol!

This release from Daewoo that contains everything you need for modern viewing in one smart box! The DRVT43 comes with a DVD player which is also a DVD-RW, a VCr, and comes with built in freeview... A lot of bit considering you can find them online for £150! And even bettter considering a Sony DVD-RW will set you back more than this whole package! The DVD player will play all dics apart from DivX (which is a format mainly used online anyway) so ...
...friend and it not working (not that im condoning that sort of behaviour lol)!!! If you hav a surround sound system at home this is compatible with that but a seperate amp will be needed--- theres normally one of those in your existing system anyway :D For £150 I dont think you can go wrong, its cheap, its compact and its ready for freeview so instant extra channels --- what more do you need? The biggest Con I would say about this product is it ... Read review

Excellent choice recorder
Review of Sony RDR-HXD995 by Extract

Advantages: User friendly, easy to setup, excellent all-round choice
Disadvantages: No DVD playback when recording to HDD

The setup is relatively easy and mostly intuitive. What's not so straight forward is, that you have to choose each country you want to receive before scanning the DVB-T channels, so the manual could be better. However the the onscreen menu is logical and fairly intuitive. Spend some time with it, fiddle around and you'll learn a thing or two about your new recorder. The digital tuner is excellent, delivering fantastic quality, the EPG is very cool. ...
...supply your free to air digital channels with an analog cable offering the best of both worlds. The recorder can help you in so many ways: If you're running out of space on the HDD, you can set the recorder to lower the quality of the recordings to fit. Never loose another recording! In manual mode, you can fine tune the recording quality, for maximum quality on the DVD. The remote is easy and user friendly, the recorder is quiet and efficient. This ... Read review
