The Dymo Labelwriter has been available in various models for a long time now. Many grumble at the limited use, plus the fact that you can use only Dymo labels with the device. Well, whilst this is true, you should really look at this device as a great time saving device, rather than money saving.
I picked up a Labelwriter 400 just recently. I had the next model up before, but sold it on for a very good price. Within a week of selling it, I wished I hadn't. Address and shipping labels vary in price and size, but the smaller address labels work out about 3p each. There is no ink or mess to worry about, as this is a thermal printer, so the printer makes the label react and reveal a fairly crisp 300dpi print. It is nice and fast and quiet in use.
So, imagine the scenario, perhaps like me you sell on ebay. I might only sell one thing a day, but on some days I have a dozen auctions ending. Instead of having to sit there writing out addresses, making sure I spell the awkward words correctly... I copy, paste into the Dymo application, then print. Attach the label and I am done. Probably 15 seconds, instead of one minute. So on a typical day that saves me ten minutes, or five hours a month. So in two months, I class this little printer as paid for.
Of course it is cheaper to write your addresses on packages and letters, but if you have loads to do, this is more accurate and a lot quicker.

The 400 uses Labels that are apparently coded so that you can ONLY USE DYMO Supplies !
Gone is the flexibility of being able to use oter Suppliers' products.
You buy the Dymo Printer and you are committed to ALWAYS buy Dymo supplies.
The old adage of " Look before you Leap" seems to be true in this equipments' case.
Low purchase price, but NO CONTROL over consumables cost.

I purchased this printer as I was fed up printing out on sheet labels. I had originally used a Brother labelprinter at work which made me think more along the lines of getting one of them. Having searched the net, came across this one (which is much neater than the brother one) and eventually bought it.
Comes with everything you need to get started, sample roll of labels, printer, cables, drivers and software.
Very Easy to setup though it did take ... ...fit the roll of labels, which is actually very straight forward.
Comes with its own software so you can have an address book within it (can be imported also) so just click on details and print label right away with the click of a button. There are LOADS of labels available which I have also bought a selection of so it is available at any time I may need them.
Print quality is excellent and no need to worry about ink cartridge like I first did as ...

The Dymo LabelWriter is amazing. It works via a network switch and print server when most printers/other label writers do not work. Its small, its SO user friendly with the DYMO Label Software. Its very very easy to fix faults when they arise (not very often) and its very quick and quiet.
The LabelWriter software itself is one of a kind - it allows you to print labels in batches, via an addin in Word, Excel and Powerpoint - ... ...is excellent, especially with the DYMO personalified labels. I have 10 of these in my organisation and they are becoming extremely popular. The cost of these little things are next to none - most other label writers cost over £130!! Its so good that I've bought one for my own use at home.

On the surface, this product is great, its quick to set up and quick to use; a click of a button and u have a printed label with the address stored on the database the software includes. You can set up logos and unique designs for personalised labels or just have a blank label with the text required. The downside of this product is that for some reason, it spools out blanks labels after the printed one. This doesn'nt happen every tim but when it ... ...the error message and normally, un plug the machine for a few minutes. This machine can be used as any other printer and can therfore be networked, this in theory is good but as if the above described problems are bad enough, when two people are trying to use it it becomes a larger problem. Overall tho, this product, when working to its full potential, is great!! ...

I sell online on several sites. I don't sell loads each day so printing sheets of labels is out of the question but I hate writing.
This printer transformed my life. Each label is printed out as I record the sale. Every Postcode is printed so it is read correctly.

...misspell when writing it down. Eventually, I'd decided to make my eBay life just that bit easier by buying myself a DYMOLabelWriter400 Turbo, ironically, bought through eBay for around £70. I'd known about the DYMO brand and their portable handheld label printers, as well as these little desktop label printers so knew they were good.
SETTING UP
Setting up was the same as any other printer with a USB connection. I installed the software on my PC, plugged the printer's power cable into the mains and then plugged the USB cable from the printer to my PC. Once the software was installed and my PC picked up the printer, it added a new printer icon for the DYMO to my printer list. Lastly, I loaded the roll of labels (included), which is quite easy to do and there's even a label on the inside of the printer with diagrams showing you how to load...

...The Dymo Labelwriter 400 turbo is a superb little printer which comes with its own software that is really easy to use. It offers functions including barcode printing, plus add-ins for instant printing from Microsoft Word, Outlook, QuickBooks, ACT!, Goldmine, Palm Desktop version 4 or later, WordPerfect® and more. This little printer offers speeds of 55 labels a minute, an average of just over a second per label. However this never seems to happen and I have never witnessed these sorts of speeds. I use the Labelwriter connected to my pc via a usb cable with no problems. I also have enabled sharing for it so other people can use it to. However these is a draw back with this that it can be quite slow printing when someone else prints. (Note this could be because of Pc but I am unable to prove/disprove this).

...The LabelWriter400 Turbo prints at a speed of 55 labels per minute, which makes it an extremely fast printer, unfortunately it never seems that fast! It offers really good label quality and flexibility but with the power and speed to save you time and money. it has a great new design, automatic back up, usb connection and the software is really easy to use. you can store all your labels (in my case addresses so much easier) and it can also print bar codes etc. the only problem that occurs is when the labels run out. when you replace them you have to make sure they are positioned exactly right, if not it won't print anything, very frustrating. overall it is a very good printer, but the labels aren't that cheap, and the service from dymo is as you'd expect!...
