Advantages: 'Free' if you buy the DSL G604T :-) Disadvantages: Becomes very hot, relatively large for a USB dongle

I won't include the specifications here as that would be to just duplicate what is already listed in the Ciao product overview (I've checked it).

What you get in the box:
1. The dongle. 2. An extension lead with a 'base station' into which you can plug the dongle 3. Manual and CD
The dongle is larger than you may expect, so may not comfortably sit in some USB ports if space is limited ( I could not but help compare it with my Bluetooth dongle, which you will find I've also reviewed in Ciao). It also gets very hot in use so again the proximity to other things may be an issue in your application. The fact that it gets hot implies to me that it must be consuming a considerable amount of juice, so may affect battery life if used on a laptop battery. I have no experience of this as my laptop has built in WLAN; I use the dongle with a desktop.
I do like the inclusion of an extension lead and particulary the 'base station'. This is a heavy lump of plastic with a USB port in the top allowing vertical mounting of this device or any other of your choosing. If you don't need it for your WLAN dongle then it makes a good desk mount for a USB stick MP3 player for instance.
Installation was a breeze. Run the install and plug the gadget it; seconds later the PC is searching for wireless networks and you are in business. The supplied utility allows override of XP control (assuming you use XP) and provides more diagnostic and control functions. I have no need of these myself so cannot comment on their usefullness. After applying any encryption keys (as for any secured network) you will be in business on your WLAN.
Performance: I've had full speed performance (54Mbps) over my large apartment without any dropout except when orginally badly positioned with respect to a metal radiator. (I had dropout caused by my DSL G604T but not when using the DWL with other kit). So, in this general domestic use the unit performs very well. One point to note with USB dongles generally is that the ease of plugging it into the back of the PC also mitigates against full network performance, as aerial positioning is likely to be 'sub-optimal' at best.
Overall Opinion: A very good buy as a freebie. Bought standalone maybe not so much a good deal as there are so many other offerings to consider. If you have a desktop then you may be better investing in a PCI card with an aerial extension for good reception/transmission. I think these USB dongles are best suited to retro-fitting laptops that came without WLAN or for those people dis-inclined to take the lid off of their desktop.
Note: DLINK have released the DWL-G132 since this model, so if you want proprietory 108Mbps performance take a look at that.
Advantages: Fast install; Included extension cable Disadvantages: Problems with Windows 2000; Bulky dongle
...I brought this with the D-Link DI-524 router and had no problems pairing them up. I'm currently using it about 30ft from the base station with one solid wall in the way and usually have very good signal running at the best possible rate of 54Mbps. I do use the extension cable and have found this to be a great advantage. It increased signal from good to very good and occasionally excellent. This helps get it away from the back of the computer and ... ...interference! D-link did have some trouble with the dongle as is wasn't put in all the packages, i had this problem but if you call customer services they will send you one and should receive within 6 weeks.
The dongle itself is quite long at about 2.5 inches by 1 inch wide. So can be an obstacle if using a laptop, or need your desktop to fit into a tight area. I have found the rate to vary and has its peak times and occasionally drops for no apparent ...

Quick review of D-Link AirPlus G DWL-G122
I was given the d-link dongle dwl-g122 and hub by a friend so I don't have any comment regarding the price. The WIFI adapter was really easy to use and loading the drivers a breeze. It links onto my SKY router with no problems. I am using the dongle via the cradle on an old laptop and also on a 5 year old 'TIME' computer. I would definately recommend the d-link adapter dwl-g122. ...

or in advertising than in reality. If you want to see my review of the much chunkier DLinkAirPlusGDWLG122 54G USB dongle please follow the debcrane reviews link). They cannot make the thing any smaller due to the limitation of the size of the USB plug. A nice feature is that the cap to protect the plug can be stored at the opposite end when in use, so it does not get lost (though it can be a bit loose). For those who like blue LEDs you get a nice bright flashing one that tells you that things are happening.
Opening the package you get a CD, a pamphlet and the gadget. Slip the CD into your drive and run the install (you do not HAVE to do this, you can just use built in BT drivers if you have them in your OS). It will install a BT monitoring/control utility into your system, with icons scattered in the usual places for activation. Then ...
