I bought this router on eBay for £20. I used this to connect 2 computers to the same internet connection to save running another lead through to the new computer. I plugged the router in and connected it up to a computer and read the instruction manual which is very useful. It comes with a wizard that gives you step by step instructions on how to configure the router with your internet connection, so I ran this and it worked fine.
The instruction manual is also very good in telling you how to set up different restrictions on the router to allow certain computers to connect to it wirelessly. After about 20 minutes I had both computers working with the internet connection.
I also wanted to use this router to connect computers together wirelessly to create a network so games can be played on individual workstations. It is so easy to setup that the instructions were not needed. With around 3 computers connecting to the router on different floors it worked fine and the speed did not fall at all. Although when connecting a couple of floors above the router, the signal strength was weaker, and so the connection speed did start to deteriorate for those computers, otherwise it was fine.
This router has the normal features that you would expect on any router, but it also has a ‘gaming’ mode built within it. So this router is more than capable of sharing an internet connection between 2 computers, and also playing a network game with different workstations.
The main control is through an internet explorer and requires the normal security to login to it. Once logged in, there are many different options that can be chosen including the wizard for setting up the internet connection, filtering MAC addresses, viewing logs of connected devices and so on. This is all viewed easily through a series of menus.
In summary, this router would be perfect for a non-technical person to setup for two computers to use one internet connection simultaneously. It can also be used if setup correctly to ‘bridge’ two connections so more computers can connect to the same internet connection or the same network. I would say that it is more than capable of handling the everyday pressures put on it of a house, but would not look out of place if placed in an office, as it has a lot of functionality.
