Advantages: Cheap-n-cheerful Disadvantages: Slow connections and poor range with supplied antenna.
My intention, when I bought this card, was to install it in my desktop, PC to allow me to access the internet, the desktop PC’s cheap storage and printing facilities in my home office all from the comfort of my living room.
My first hurdle was to get FreeBSD to recognise this card – and a quick web search revealed that I needed only enable the "ath" and "athhal" devices. I expect the card is also recognised under Windows/Linux – but I’ve not had ... ...all I had a working device and was able to establish communication between my XP laptop and BSD desktop.
The first disappointment was the speed of the connection – I only achieved around 36Mbps when desktop and laptop were next to each other on my desk. The second disappointment was that as soon as I moved my laptop out of the room it lost the connection entirely. Unimpressed I tried re-arranging the desktop to avoid the desktop PC’s case from interfering ...

Advantages: Very quick and easy to set up, Disadvantages: Shorter than claimed 100m Range, Some configuration problems in Windows XP, No Linux Support
...discovered the new offering from D-Link - the DWL G520. I bought two for the fairly hefty price of about £120, and they installed without a problem. However problems started occuring when one of the computers was moved slightly further away, the cards failed to find each other. After a quick e-mail to the D-Link customer support this soon was fixed, by decreasing the speed to around 48Mb/s. This didn't make much of a change to the performance. However ... ...of setup, but obstructed by walls and floors they only work at close range , but it would be nice to see some Linux support as well.
* According to the D-Link website, a newer version of the firmware is being released which will allow speeds of up to 108Mb/s ...

After some adds of the 108Mbps capabilities of the DWL-G650 and DWL-520 cards I decided to buy one.
Unlucky me! I received the DWL-G650+ and DWL-520+. Apparently, these are the versions D-Link reserves for out-side the US. Trying to upgrade to... more
Had one for home use, not particularly amazed by the amount of features it has. Firstly, there is no WDS system on it, which I did not realise until after i had bought it. It was originally to wirelessly link my computer downstairs to my two upstairs,... more
I bought the DSL G604T router/ADSL modem/firewall/WLAN hub in mid 2005 (see my review of it in Ciao) and the DWL G122 came as part of the kit. Given that the kit cost me £58 and the DWL retails at ~£25 separately I consider that a very good deal :->... more
For those looking to set up a first network this would be a good choice, particularly for a small home/office network. With the ability to connect four ethernet connections, it has plenty of room for expansion, and doesn't take up a huge amount of... more
