Advantages: Easy to set up and use, Stable, Good support Disadvantages: A bit out dated
times it's been unstable is when the wireless router / Access Point isn't working properly.
Transfer rates, as expected are not as fast as when using a wired connection (using Cat5 network cable). On my 2Mbit ADSL connection (capable of up to 230KB/s), speeds typically start off between 100-200KB/s but seem to start to drop to around 90KB/s. This is while the laptop is about 50cm from my router so it's nothing to do with distance or obstructions. It's not top speed but it's still pretty quick.
It does exactly what it's supposed to and does it well. It's easy to use as once set up, you just connect to your network or Internet as usual, just without wires.
SUPPORT
The drivers, software, and manuals are on the CD included but if you ever lose the CD or want updated drivers and software, then they can be downloaded from the D-Link ...
Advantages: Easy to install with a little help from guy on phone at D Link Disadvantages: Instruction manual not very helpful
Bought this item cheaper in currys and came with wireless adapter which was very good value for money. Instruction manual not much cop as only took you through the first two stages of installation though guy on phone at D Link really helpful and talked us through it. Very easy to instal and installed in about 15 mins. Had been looking for a wireless router as just changed over to Virgin Media from Sky and had never heard of D Link (bought for the price) but very happy with product and would definitely buy D Link again, desktop and laptop now wireless, also happy with speed though don't know if this has anything to do with the router or if computer would be that speed anyway. Would definitely recommend though. ...
Advantages: Wireless N technology is good for speed and data throughput... Disadvantages: ...but if the adapter keeps dropping out (like this one does) then it is useless
my net experience.
So...that's alright then. I need not have kept rebooting. All I had to do was pull.... what? You mean that's not a design feature? Ok. In that case it is not up to the job - I want reliability?not a lack of ability.
I summarise the D-Link DWA-140 as follows:
D-Links Woeful Adaptor
Dodgy Wireless Ability
Doesn't Work Always
Dis Was Awful
Don't Want Another
Don't Waste Any (money on this adapter)
Recommend it? That will be a 'No', then
ps I researched the drop out problem on the internet - apparently it is well known so I am not alone in this - you have been warned!! ...
The DCS-3420 Wireless Day & Night Internet Camera is a versatile security system that allows you to watch and listen remotely from anywhere. This full-featured camera connects to Ethernet wired or wireless networks in a building or campus and via broadband to the Internet. Equipped with a high-quality CCD sensor, digital zoom, low-light / no light capabilities and advanced software functions for multi-camera monitoring and management, this camera provides a comprehensive system for surveillance over a LAN or the Web.In order to ease migration from traditional analog CCTV surveillance to IP-based digital systems, the DCS-3420 includes a standard BNC connector for analog CCTV video. The inclusion of both Ethernet and BNC connections allows you to simultaneously incorporate the DCS-3420 into both digital and analog surveillance systems. The DCS-3420 may be used outdoors, when placed in a suitable enclosure such as the DCS-60.The DCS-3420 uses MPEG-4 Simple Profile Mode to stream live video at up to 25 frames per second for real-time viewing. A CCD sensor provides sharp video images with lifelike color representation and a 4x digital zoom capability allows for close-up viewing over the Web interface. With low-light capability, the camera can monitor and record video in rooms with minimal or no lighting, making it ideal for use in dark places.Through a built-in microphone, you can watch and listen remotely as the DCS-3420 captures both sound and video from your site. The DCS-3420 takes surveillance to another level using two-way audio. By adding a powered speaker (not included) to the DCS-3420, you can also talk remotely with anyone at your camera site. For effective surveillance in and around a building, this camera comes with a built-in high-speed 802.11g wireless network interface, which supports WEP and WPA-PSK encryption, allowing for images to be transmitted securely at up to 54Mbps. A 10/100Base-TX Ethernet port is also provided to allow connection to a wired Ethernet network or directly to the Internet via a broadband router.
