The D-Link DSL-504 ADSL Router has a built-in ADSL modem - plugs directly into your ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line)-enabled phone line, and with its 4 port 10/100Mbps ethernet switch, allows connections to lots of things (check out my other reviews for what it's connected to...). The DES-1026G is an unmanaged 10/100Mbps switch with 24 10/100Mbps ports for workstation connection, plus 2 copper Gigabit ports for server deployment. The switch comes with 24 10/100Mbps ports, allowing a small workgroup to flexibly integrate to Ethernet and Fast Ethernet. These intelligent ports detect the network speed and auto-negotiate between 100BASE-TX and 10BASE-T, as well as between full and half-duplex. 2 copper Gigabit ports provide an inexpensive alternative solution to fiber-optic. Using your existing low-cost Cat. 5 copper twisted-pair wires as the transmission media, these ports allow you to instantly upgrade your servers to Gigabit capability without requiring you to install new, expensive fiber cables. All ports support flow control. This function minimizes dropped packets by sending out collision signals when the port's receiving buffer is full. All ports support auto-negotiation of MDI/MDIX cross over. This eliminates the need for cross over cables or uplink ports. Any port can simply plug to a workstation, a server, a hub or a switch, using the usual straight-through twisted-pair cable.
