It is relatively reliable but it is no different to any other switch on the market in terms or reliability.
4. User Friendly
Is it user friendly?
Yes it is the easiest thing it the world to use. It is a plug and play switch plug you computers in to the ports on the back and plug the power cable in and it is done. The only complicated part is windows set up which I wont go in to as all versions are different.
Conclusion.
So the DES 1008D does live up to the requirements of an office environment. And at the price I don't think any one could complain. The price is around £20 - £35 and is worth every penny.

The D-Link DSL-504 ADSL Router has a built-in ADSL modem - plugs directly into your ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line)-enabled phone line, and with its 4 port 10/100Mbps ethernet switch, allows connections to lots of things (check out my other reviews for what it's connected to...). The DCHP server allows automatic allocation of IP addresses to all your network gubbins too - although I've set the IP's for my wireless accesspoint & print server to allow easier access to their brower based interfaces.
The DSL-504 has a browser admin interface too for easy installation and setup, just type in the IP address (the default 192.168.0.1, as with most routers, but if it's changed you can always use the command line ...

stops autoscanning and lets you use the currently selected PC.
The Belkin claims support for scrolling mice but I did find sometimes one PC would start up without recognising this facility if it wasn't the currently selected one when booting up and in extreme cases, wouldn't recognise the keyboard and mouse at all. Previous KVM's I've used send the PC fake 'There's a keyboard and mouse here' messages when not selected and it seems this unit does not, which is a pity.
Conclusion
The Belkin 2 port KVM is a well built unit that works nicely and provides a great way to save desk space and the cost of a second monitor, keyboard and mouse. The long leads are useful and despite the niggles with scrolling mice and the lack of manual switch. I'd say this unit is worth considering at this price if you can live with those shortcomings ...

Housed in a new style rack-mount metal case with easy-to-view front panel diagnostic LEDs, this switch provides extensive security features and the option to connect fiber links with its four SFP expansion slots. The switch provides MAC address filters to screen access to the network. It supports 802.1X port-based authentication, allowing the network to be configured with external RADIUS servers. Additional features like D-Link Safeguard Engine protect the switch against traffic flooding caused by virus/worm outbreaks. The switch supports 802.1Q VLAN Tagging for traffic segmentation by groups to enhance network security and performance. It also supports 802.1p Priority Queues, enabling administrators to run bandwidth-sensitive applications such as streaming multimedia and VoIP on the network. These functions allow the switch to work seamlessly with managed VLAN and 802.1p traffic on the network. Implemented as a complete L2 device, this switch includes functions such as Jumbo frame support, IGMP snooping, port mirroring, Spanning Tree, port trunks and 802.3x Flow Control to enhance network performance and reliability. Switch configuration and management is through the SmartConsole Utility or a web-based GUI.
