D-Link DGS 3024 - switch - 24 ports

The DGS-3024, an all-Gigabit Layer 2 switch designed for departmental connection, provides 24 10/100/1000BASE-T ports for copper Gigabit connection, plus 4 combo SFP for flexible... more...fiber backbone attachment. Powerful yet affordable, this switch brings the Gigabit speed to the desktops and servers, while providing all the necessary functions such as port trunking, VLAN, priority queues and redundant power supply to allow a department to effectively deploy a bottleneck-free switching network for easy integration with a larger enterprise or campus network. With 24 10/100/1000BASE-T auto-sensing ports in a low profile device, this switch is a cost-effective solution for Gigabit networking. All ports support auto MDI/MDIX, allowing you to connect to workstations and servers from any port without the need to change your usual twisted-pair network cables. 4 combo SFP are provided for flexible fiber connection. You can select to install optional transceiver modules in these slots for short, medium or long-distance fiber backbone attachment. Use of the SFP will disable their corresponding built-in 10/100/1000BASE-T connections. Designed as a cost-effective managed switch for departmental connection, the DGS-3024 gives you all the basic security and Quality of Service (QoS) functions including 802.1Q VLAN, GVRP, 802.1p Priority Queues, 802.1x access control, and broadcast storm control. These features facilitate the deployment of office applications such as VoIP Internet telephone and streaming media. The DGS-3024 supports 802.3ad Link Aggregation, allowing you to combine multiple ports into a multi-link for higher bandwidth connections to servers or the network backbone. For redundancy, the switch supports 802.1 Spanning Tree for backup bridge paths, and can be connected to an external power supply to maximize network uptime. In case the built-in internal power supply fails, the redundant power supply unit will automatically provide the required power to ensure continuous operation. The DGS-3024 addresses today's diverse business and IT requirements through its robust support of standards based network management protocols (SNMP/RMON/BOOTP/Telnet/Web) and port mirroring. It can be easily integrated with most third-party network management products.

Dlink Strikes Again

Advantages: 8 Port
Disadvantages: Static.

Dlink DES 1008D Why a switch? Switches are the backbones of a network. They are the devices that at all the computers in the office have no choice but to use. They are a great tool in modern computer networks. The switch allows communication between computers, servers and network printers. What does a switch need to do? 1. Connect multiple computers 2. Be Fast 3. Be Reliable 4. Be user Friendly So will the DES 1008D model handle the pressure? 1. Connectivity The DES 1008D has a total of 8 ports witch means that you could have 8 computers connecting simultaneously, or you could have a variety or pcs, servers, printers, and other networks switches connecting to it. 8 ports will happily support a small office or home based network. 2. Speed So we have found out that it has 8 ports so what will ...

D-Link DSL-504 ADSL Router 4 Port

Advantages: Pick up a bargain ?
Disadvantages: Only 4 ethernet ports ?

Another review from me for a discontinued item, but may be useful if you're loking to pick up a bargain item on ebay... The D-Link DSL-504 ADSL Router has a built-in ADSL modem - plugs directly into your ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line)-enabled phone line, and with its 4 port 10/100Mbps ethernet switch, allows connections to lots of things (check out my other reviews for what it's connected to...). The DCHP server allows automatic allocation of IP addresses to all your network gubbins too - although I've set the IP's for my wireless accesspoint & print server to allow easier access to their brower based interfaces. The DSL-504 has a browser admin interface too for easy installation and setup, just type in the IP address (the default 192.168.0.1, as with most routers, but if it's changed you can always use the command line ...

Switch to Netgear

Advantages: Easy to use, easy to install
Disadvantages: closeness of the ports.

Netgear are well known for their networking equipment and it is for this reason I want to tell you about a great piece of kit. The 24 port switch. 24 ports of networking capability.... But what does that all mean??? Ok, let me tell you about what a network is. Even the internet is just one big network. it is simply just a collection of computers that are connected together and can communicate. Simple! But, how do you connect them together? Its not like they shake hands and have a chat is it? Well in a way, that is what they are doing but using some extra hardware to do this. To put a computer on a network, it needs a Network interface card or NIC. This plugs into your computer's motherboard. Its basically similar to installing a graphics card or sound card. You then need to connect the computer via the NIC card to ...
