Advantages: Easy to physically install Disadvantages: Short working life, loses settings regularly
Back in March 2007, I bought my first laptop. This brought the number of computers in our house up to a grand total of three (my own desktop, my daughter's and the new laptop). It struck me that perhaps it was time to get networked. A hard wired network was out of the question, as I didn't want to start drilling holes and running cables everywhere, so a wireless solution seemed to be the way to go. I did a little research, as I'm not too au fait with this side of computing (though I have assisted in installing one before). Eventually in Pissy Werld (sorry, PC World), I found this package from D-Link. It consisted of the wirless router itself and a seperate antennae (destined for my daughter's bedroom PC). Also in the box were installation CDs for each of the two bits of hardware, a power supply and an additional ethernet cable..

Advantages: Easy & Quick Setup, Cheap, Game Mode Disadvantages: Walls Constrict Wi-Fi Range
I bought this router on eBay for £20. I used this to connect 2 computers to the same internet connection to save running another lead through to the new computer. I plugged the router in and connected it up to a computer and read the instruction manual which is very useful. It comes with a wizard that gives you step by step instructions on how to configure the router with your internet connection, so I ran this and it worked fine.
The instruction manual is also very good in telling you how to set up different restrictions on the router to allow certain computers to connect to it wirelessly. After about 20 minutes I had both computers working with the internet connection.
I also wanted to use this router to connect computers together wirelessly to create a network so games can be played on individual workstations. It is so easy to ...
Advantages: Cheap Disadvantages: It does not work correctly - at least mine
Purchased it from Amazon and tried on our line.
Main problem was: disconnecting!
ADSL is perfectly fine and I am also an IT Technician.
Old modem and others 'still' work fine and they are back in place.
I was trying to modernise and get ready for ADSL2 an this modem should have worked fine on normal ADSL too and it gets dangerously hot in my view and after 2 emails with D-Link they did not reply any more to me avoiding the problem.
So, I sent it back to Amazon and asked for a full refund - not Amazon fault and thinking that it was at 'only' £. 24.99 and no postage, that should have been a warning !
I hope for D-Link sake, it was only mine faulty and it is not a normal way or working for this modem.
It does not mean other modems are faulty, mine was and I asked D-Link to send one out (just the modem) and pick up ...
Product Information for "D-Link DI 1135C-1/TP - router" »
Manufacturer's product description
The DI-1135 provides a built-in ISDN interface with B channel 1 for auto-call (semi-permanent), B channel 2 for dynamic connection. ISDN call suspension may be configured for both types of connection. The router senses when a remote transaction has ceased and terminates the call, while spoofing the services offered by the servers. When access to the network service is needed, the router automatically and transparently re-establishes and updates the service connection. It supports static routes, learned dynamic routes, and proxy ARP to keep broadcasts off WAN links, auto-learning of MAC addresses, custom address filters, packet type filters, and Spanning Tree. There are two levels of dial-up security provided through XID and password authentication protocols. A menu-based interface supports SNMP MIB-II and Telnet. Flash memory is used for firmware with TFTP download support.
