D-Link DKT-710 Wireless G ADSL2+ Starter Kit - wireless router

Being an experienced computer user who has previously done basic upgrades to my PC I was still a little worried about going wireless. I had security worries & the terminology is baffling. Do I go with wireless-g or wireless-n? If it's wireless, why did I need ethernet cables? I also was not sure exactly how to set it up & friends had had problems setting up their systems. ...This one promised easy set-up wizard, install in seconds. I did have problems initially but to be fair, later discovered these were due to problems on the ADSL telephone line not the product. Once the line was "fixed" the router basically did just plug in & set up easily via the wizard.

The quick install guide DOES NOT explain however where to stick the USB adapter. I was not sure if it needed to plug into the PC as well ... more

However, I decided to go for it when my wired modem apparently gave up the ghost last weekend and I lost all internet.
This one promised easy set-up wizard, install in seconds. I did have problems initially but to be fair, later discovered these were due to problems on the ADSL telephone line not the product. Once the line was "fixed" the router basically did just plug in & set up easily via the wizard.

The quick install guide DOES NOT explain however where to stick the USB adapter. I was not sure if it needed to plug into the PC as well as the router or to plug it into the laptop. Did I just need to use it to set up the laptop links or keep it plugged in whenever the wireless link was in use (like an antenna). I eventually figured this out but the guide could be clearer.

The security features included were very easy to set up & offered a choice of 2 encryption types. I now have a password protected wireless network at home and so far am very happy.

I have no other experience setting up wireless networks so cannot compare it against any other similar product but everything I needed was in the box & did set up quite easily.
