The D-Link DKVM-4U KVM switch allows you to control up to 4 PCs using only one monitor, keyboard and mouse. The monitor and the two input devices are connected directly to this KVM switch and not to the client computers. The DKVM-4U is also a cost effective solution for control of several servers in a computer room, allowing an engineer to handily manipulate all connected computers from a single monitor, keyboard and mouse. Each KVM cable set includes a video cable for PC's VGA connector, and a single USB 2.0 cable for the PC's USB port. From the KVM switch box, you can connect to 2 USB devices: a USB keyboard and a USB mouse. 2 sets of KVM cables are provided for ready connection to 2 computers, the remaining KVM cables are optional. You can switch quickly between the individual client computers by pushing a button on the DKVM-4U or by pressing the hot keys on your keyboard. The KVM switch confirms the switchover with an acoustic signal, and has LEDs indicating which PC is currently being served by the console. All connected PCs are automatically scanned every 10 seconds, so your monitor, keyboard and mouse are updated whenever you switch to a selected PC. CAPS LOCK, NUM LOCK and SCROLL LOCK key's status for each computer is automatically recalled. The DKVM-4U guarantees that the client PC does not crash when it is disconnected from KVM switch box. The DKVM-4U is capable of supporting the most demanding resolutions (VGA, SVGA and Multisync monitors) of up to 2048 x 1536 at 75Hz refresh rate (bandwidth up to 400MHz) without any noticeable degradation in image quality.

The Belkin claims support for scrolling mice but I did find sometimes one PC would start up without recognising this facility if it wasn't the currently selected one when booting up and in extreme cases, wouldn't recognise the keyboard and mouse at all. Previous KVM's I've used send the PC fake 'There's a keyboard and mouse here' messages when not selected and it seems this unit does not, which is a pity.
Conclusion
The Belkin 2 portKVM is a well built unit that works nicely and provides a great way to save desk space and the cost of a second monitor, keyboard and mouse. The long leads are useful and despite the niggles with scrolling mice and the lack of manual switch. I'd say this unit is worth considering at this price if you can live with those shortcomings...

The D-Link DSL-504 ADSL Router has a built-in ADSL modem - plugs directly into your ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line)-enabled phone line, and with its 4port 10/100Mbps ethernet switch, allows connections to lots of things (check out my other reviews for what it's connected to...). The DCHP server allows automatic allocation of IP addresses to all your network gubbins too - although I've set the IP's for my wireless accesspoint & print server to allow easier access to their brower based interfaces.
The DSL-504 has a browser admin interface too for easy installation and setup, just type in the IP address (the default 192.168.0.1, as with most routers, but if it's changed you can always use the command line...

The F1DL102P KVM is a quality unit that works well and provides a great way to save desk space and the cost of a second monitor, keyboard and mouse. The long leads and audio support are useful and despite the niggles with scrolling mice and the lack of manual switch. I'd recommend this unit, especially at this price. The fact that it comes with a 3 year warranty is a further plus point....
