Advantages: Link upto 3 printers on 1 IP address. Simple setup Disadvantages: None
Where I work, we have always purchased the HP Jetdirect print server devices. However, when we bought a whole load of Magicard badge printers we found out after several painful days that these only worked with the D-linkDP300u print servers due to some strange setting within the printer. With this information, we were forced into buying the D-link blind with no time to do any background research or fact finding.
The D-link is a 3 port print server, 2 ports are serial with the other being USB. This means that upto 3 printers can be attached to the print server at any one time. At the time we bought them, they were around £80 each.
--Whats in the box--
The D-link print server comes in a very compact box with just enough room for the components. There is the print server itself which is nicely designed to comply ...

Advantages: Robust, Reliable, Easy to configure Disadvantages: None
The D- LinkDP-301U is a small compact print server that connects to your Ethernet or Fast Ethernet network. With its USB port, the DP-301U allows those on your network to access and share a USB printer no matter where they reside on the network. We use quite a lot these printer servers at work as not many of our printers do not have built in network connections an as most of our printers have USB connections we need a print server that has USB compatible.
These print servers are very easy to use, are very easy to setup and the user manual that comes with them is very easy understand and to follow. The print server is equipped with one USB version 1.1 port for a connection to most USB printers available ass most printers only support USB. The DP-301U also supports all major network operation systems and protocols. With its compact ...
Advantages: low cost for printer sharing/ 2 parallel + 1 USB printer support Disadvantages: no bi-directional support cause not fully function of new printers
I am using it for few weeks now, it need some network knowledge to let it work, I can't let it work using the installation manual so I us my way.
I connectted 3 printers: EPSON AcuLaser C900, EPSON CX6400 and CANON multiPass C30.
There are only CANON MultiPass C30 working properly, the Aculaser C900 always poped up an error message "error communication" although it still prints out;
EPSON CX6400 is an USB multifunction inkjet printer, due to no bidirectional communication, my CX6400 only can print out, but can't let it SCAN or read memory card photos.
I put the way I set up DP 300U on my web site:

DP-303 multi-protocol print server makes network connection easy through the use of an Nway connection, which allows the print server to be used with either Ethernet or Fast Ethernet LAN.The multi-protocol print server is equipped with high-speed parallel port, and an NWAY port, transmitting at either 10Mbps. This allows the print server to auto-sense the best connection speed to use on the network without the need for end-user configuration. Supporting IP, IPX, NetBEUI and Apple EtherTalk protocols, along with Ethernet, or Fast Ethernet, this print server is ideal for shared printing in mixed-LAN environments. The DP-303's parallel port supports HP PJL protocol for bi-directional network printer communication. This feature allows the print server to collect information about the status of the printer while printing. A user-friendly configuration program that works with Windows 3.x, Windows 95, Windows 98, and Windows NT makes it possible to set up the print server in minutes. Telnet support allows an administrator to remotely configure and maintain the print server on the Internet or a UNIX network. The DP-303's large spool buffer lets the print server safely handle multiple print requests. The print server provides outstanding performance over PC-based print server and PC parallel/serial connections. Its compact size makes it possible to place it next to the printer, and allows more choices for printer placement on the network.
