Advantages: Cheap Disadvantages: It does not work correctly - at least mine
Purchased it from Amazon and tried on our line.
Main problem was: disconnecting!
ADSL is perfectly fine and I am also an IT Technician.
Old modem and others 'still' work fine and they are back in place.
I was trying to modernise and get ready for ADSL2 an this modem should have worked fine on normal ADSL too and it gets dangerously hot in my view and after 2 emails with D-Link they did not reply any more to me avoiding the problem.
So, I sent it back to Amazon and asked for a full refund - not Amazon fault and thinking that it was at 'only' £. 24.99 and no postage, that should have been a warning !
I hope for D-Link sake, it was only mine faulty and it is not a normal way or working for this modem.
It does not mean other modems are faulty, mine was and I asked D-Link to send one out (just the modem) and pick up ...
Advantages: Pick up a bargain ? Disadvantages: Only 4 ethernet ports ?

The D-LinkDSL-504 ADSL Router has a built-in ADSL modem - plugs directly into your ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line)-enabled phone line, and with its 4 port 10/100Mbps ethernet switch, allows connections to lots of things (check out my other reviews for what it's connected to...). The DCHP server allows automatic allocation of IP addresses to all your network gubbins too - although I've set the IP's for my wireless accesspoint & print server to allow easier access to their brower based interfaces.
The DSL-504 has a browser admin interface too for easy installation and setup, just type in the IP address (the default 192.168.0.1, as with most routers, but if it's changed you can always use the command line ...

D-Link have now brought us the G624T!, At almost half the size of the previous models and now featuring a vertical stand, D-Link have certanly set the bar high.

This modem provides a plug-and-play interface with the host PC through a standard USB port. The modem features G.dmt modulation for speeds of up to 8 Mbps downstream and 640 Kbps upstream. G.lite is also supported, allowing up to 1.5 Mbps downstream and 512 Kbps upstream. G.lite is sufficient for most Internet applications today, and has the advantage of not requiring the installation of a splitter at the subscriber end. The modem auto-senses the connection type and auto-negotiates the best modulation scheme, G.dmt or G.lite using the G.hs (handshake) protocol. ADSL service, once installed, is always on. There is no need to dial the ISP or corporate LAN at the other end. Regular telephone service uses only a tiny portion of the actual capacity of a conventional telephone line, while ADSL uses the remaining bandwidth for high-speed data transfer. This is accomplished by setting different frequency channels for different functions, so that voice communication occurs at the lower end of the frequency spectrum, while data transmission takes place at higher frequencies.
