"D-Link DSL 320T"

I needed an ethernet modem to allow "always on" connection for my Apple Airport network. Up till now I've been using a Speedtouch USB and internet sharing to the wireless network via the attached computer. The disadvantage here was that this computer needed to be left on as long as an internet connection was required.
I chose the 320T because it was simple, reasonably future proof (ADSL2/+) and I didn't need a wireless router.
I got a good deal (under £15) from a reputable eBay powerseller on this item and after a couple of minor issues I'm now happy with its performance and stability.
First problem was a software compatibility issue with Airport. I could get the modem to work through the ethernet connection on the computer but not the WAN port on my Airport Extreme base station. A bit of research on Apple's website followed by an Airport firmware update and all was well.
The other problem was a frequent loss of connection, but this was sorted quite easily after referring to my ISP's help pages (Tiscali). I needed to tweak a couple of settings on the modem's home page and change the DHCP lease time which was set for only 60 seconds.
Since then it's been fine, with download speeds being quite a bit snappier than with the USB system.
With three computers sharing a 2Mbps connection, performance is as good as one could hope for and even borders on quite impressive at times.
Definitely recommended for Apple fans, but check your Airport firmware is up to date if connecting to a base station.
To sum up, this is a very worthwhile upgrade from any USB modem, however if you're going wireless at the same time take a look at this company's wireless routers for an all in one solution.

Manufacturer's product description

The DSL-320T ADSL2/+ modem is a high-speed broadband modem for home and office use. Featuring the latest ADSL2/+ standards, this modem provides speeds of up to 24Mbps downstream and 1Mbps upstream (ADSL2+), or 12Mbps downstream and 1Mbps upstream (ADSL2). The modem auto-negotiates the best modulation scheme, using the G.hs (handshake) protocol. The DSL-320T ADSL2/+ modem supports "always on" connections to eliminate dial-up wait time and busy signals. Web surfing and your e-mail are instantly available, any time. Like any ADSL modem, it lets you access the Internet using your existing phone lines, without interfering with your voice phone service. You can talk on the phone and surf the net at the same time. Along with instant connectivity, you can surf the Internet at very high speeds. With high-speed connections (depending on the rate that you subscribe with your Internet service provider), you won't have to wait for downloads of graphic-intensive web pages. These speeds are also ideal for on-line audio/video streams, Internet games, VoIP phone communication applications and transfers of large files over the Internet. Installation is quick and simple. You connect the modem to any PC with an available Ethernet port, or to a router to share high-speed Internet access with a group of users at home or the office.
