D-Link RangeBooster N 650 Router DIR-635 - wireless router

This is a wireless network router whih you can use with either a cable modem or a DSL modem. I've owned mine for ages - it orginally cost me £76 and, though that's quite a lot compared to some routers, this one is really powerful and I guess you get what you pay for.

This router doesn't come with a modem, as with most of them, but, like the majority of ISPs I suspect, mine supplied me with one as part of the subscription. The signal ...

This is despite the fact that the router is unhelpfully located in the study which seemd logical but is in fact right at one end of the house, so it's impressive that we are still getting signal right at the other end above the garage.

The router is very fast too; I'm really pleased with as well: I can download a half-hour TV programme from 4OD in about a minute, and my teenage son can play on-line games on his laptop without it jerking. It copes well with Skype calls too, and the web cam - it's not jerky either.

You don't buy a wireless router for its beauty, but this is a perfectly decent, if slightly space age looking, bit of kit that doesn't offend the eye. It was a bit of a faff to install and get working (it took half an hour and a couple of swear words), but I'm a bit thick about these things sometimes.

It supports both WEP and WPA encryption, uses two firewalls and is something called draft 802.11n compliant. This is obviously really seriously a lot faster than 802.11g, but I don't understand it so I'll stop now before you sus me out. It's a Good Thing though.

I'm really pleased with it and it has continued to work despite small rugrat Oldbag pulling by its cable half way across the study when my back was turned recently and chewing the sticky out aerial bits.
