The Belkin N+ router is one of the higher end (consumer) wireless modem router offerings from Belkin. It cost me £85 from PC World, but can probably be found for a bit less if you shop online. The Cable version costs a little less. Reason I bought this one was because two PCs in the house with wireless cards kept losing the wireless connection when I was using a Linksys router (my own PCs / laptops were fine though!). I replaced that with a second hand Belkin, which worked fine but unfortunately, a power cut killed the wireless on it. Liking the performance of that cheaper Belkin router, I decided to stick with Belkin and get this one!
DESIGN
The router looks very stylish and stands up tall rather than laid down flat. It doesn?t appear to have been designed to be laid down flat like many other routers, which may ...
Advantages: Fast speeds, Reliable, Stylish Disadvantages: I had wireless problems, Gets a bit warm, no restart router option in config
The Linksys WAG160NN300 is an ADSL2+ wireless modem router, meaning it has a a modem built in. It is for use with BT Internet connections rather than for use with a Cable broadband connection (i.e. Virgin) although a Cable version is also available. It?s an ADSL2 router, which means it supports the newer ADSL standard, which could mean faster transfer speeds although this really depends on your line quality, distance from Exchange, service with ISP, etc. The router currently costs £74.99 from PC World but a bit less at £59.99 on their website. I bought mine about 8 months ago on Ebuyer for around £55.
IN THE BOX
You receive two ADSL filter
s, RJ11 cable, user manual, manual and software CD, power adapter and lastly, the router itself.
THE ROUTER ITSELF
One thing I quite like about the router is that it looks quite ...
Advantages: Easy to physically install Disadvantages: Short working life, loses settings regularly
Back in March 2007, I bought my first laptop. This brought the number of computers in our house up to a grand total of three (my own desktop, my daughter's and the new laptop). It struck me that perhaps it was time to get networked. A hard wired network was out of the question, as I didn't want to start drilling holes and running cables everywhere, so a wireless solution seemed to be the way to go. I did a little research, as I'm not too au fait with this side of computing (though I have assisted in installing one before). Eventually in Pissy Werld (sorry, PC World), I found this package from D-Link. It consisted of the wirless router itself and a seperate antennae (destined for my daughter's bedroom PC). Also in the box were installation CDs for each of the two bits of hardware, a power supply and an additional ethernet cable..

Manufacturer's product description
With the latest firmware installed, you will be able to turn off the router's wireless signal altogether at certain times of the day, to save energy and use the USB port to share a printer or a memory stick on the network (SharePort). The DIR-655 Wireless N Gigabit Router connects to any modem or ISP box to provide Internet access for computers and other network equipment. It is an advanced device that features 802.11n (Draft 2.0) technology, thus incorporating 300 Mbps wireless performance with extended coverage and no dead spots. Gigabit Ethernet connectivity is included on both LAN and WAN networks. This router, with its Quality of Service feature, automatically detects if audio, video or gaming content is being transmitted over the network and gives these applications priority over less time-sensitive traffic such as email or file transfers.Setting the router up is easy even for non-technically minded people, with D-Link Click'n Connect: run directly from the product CD-ROM, this wizard takes you through an interactive step-by-step guide that will get you on-line in a matter of minutes. It also includes a simplified method of setting up wireless encryption, the Wi-Fi Wireless Protect Setup (WPS), which works at the touch of a button.A powerful dual firewall (SPI and NAT) prevents Denial of Service (DoS) attacks and attempts to breach your network from the Internet. You can also define a list of allowed sites to restrict web access during certain periods.
