This is really an excellent DVD recorder. I purchased this DVD recorder around 6 months ago and have never had a problem with it. My main reason for buying was the price. I found a brand new one online for just £60 and with the range of features it seemed a bargain. I was so impressed with the dvd recorder that I bought a second one for upstairs. The DVD recorder can be made region free by simply: 1.Turn your machine on with no tapes or discs present.
3.On your remote control press the right navigation arrow button( next to the enter button) until you get to the System Info Screen.
4.Read the on screen list and you should find that it ends at "Loader Version"
5.On your remote control type in 1 1 0 1 - This should then add an additional item of Region Code to your list.
6.On your remote control type in which ever one of the following that you need.... 0 - For region free.
7. On your remote control press Enter to confirm.
8. Exit the setup program slip in the disc you wanted to watch and you should be all set. (information was sourced on Amzon).
The DVD recording is of high quality and I've used a variety of discs from DVD-R, DVD+R and DVD RW discs. It's a great DVD recorder for myself as I often purchase DVD's online and a lot of sellers are based in the US, so this DVD recorder being region free really helps.
Sky+ has made recording saved programmes onto DVD's very easy. I can get around 2 hours of programmes onto a standard DVD which is all I need as the longest thing I've transferred to DVD was a film of 100 minutes. This is a great device to free up space on your Sky+ hard drive.
When recording the unit is fairly quiet, my last DVD recorder sounded like someone had just turned on a cordless drill when you were recording. But this unit is much quieter and no louder than when just playing a DVD.
The sound quality is pretty good from this recorder. I'll often just play CD's through it as my stereo is a little temperamental. But even through the television's speakers the sound quality is very good, whether using CD's, DVD's or DVD's you've recorded yourself.
Overall this is a great DVD recorder. It is very stylish and doesn't look out of place next to my much more expensive equipment that is in my TV cabinet. And can be purchased for around the same price as a multi region DVD player. So this DVD Recorder really is a bargain price for what it does, how it looks and the quality of the construction.
In 6 months use, the only slight negative thing that I've found is that I can't programme it into my "one for all remote" so I have to have one extra remote, but that may only affect my universal remote. However, if you do lose the remote and the DVD recorder is left unplugged from the mains for a period of time, you have to redo the settings, which you require the remote to do.
