A Brilliant Little car with a Merc under the bonnet! - Literally!

Advantages: Everything
Disadvantages: Ride, and they may disappear

First of all, did you know Dawoo make engines for Mercedes? No, bet you didn't. Our Dawoo has gone like a dream, for boy racers, we've driven our Dawoe at 115 mph with some left in reserve, its quick on acceleration, the ride is a little bumpy but the car is very responsive. The gear change is slick, the interior is bland but adequate and the street cred. value errr, come back to that never!

The idea that attracted myself was the free ...
...hit Ford where it hurts so Ford have said they will buy out Dawoo no matter what the costs.

We have had no trouble with our Dawoo so far other than the fact of the bumpers. Plastic bumpers are so much better as the do not leave a mark. We have had several nudges where a respray has been required. Plastic bumpers would have been much better although they do look a little out of place.

I just hope Dawoo last out until ... more

...When work is required, if Daewoo are given advance warning or if an urgent problem has developed, they will provide a loan car. (The onus is on you to request this). What makes Daewoo different? Dealing direct with the manufacturer means no garage blues!!! We all know of disreputable dealers - every manufacturer has them. (A Citroen garage recently charged £700 to a work colleague for a £65 job!) Daewoo's standards are high and all their outlets ...
...honoured and is still being offered on all new Daewoos. They face an uncertain future but their staff are confident that Daewoo have made such an impact in the European market that they will be bought by someone!!! We are very pleased with the car! ...

I love my Lanos !

Advantages: Sporty design

...the proud owner of a Daewoo Lanos 1.6 auto and I have never had so many compliments about a car!! I bought it new in March 2000 and I believe it is a fabulous car. It has a sporty shape and metalic paint as standard - mine is an unusual Evergreen, and everyone (male & female) tells me they love the colour! It is a dream to drive - very smooth and very nippy. It is easy to park and ok on petrol. Of course the Daewoo deal is excellent. I did have to ...

The Rover 216 in Disguise

Advantages: Price, Service agreement, reliability
Disadvantages: Image

We bought our Daewoo Lanos last year and haven't looked back. If you put it side by side with a Rover 216 then you would be hard pushed to tell the difference. Ok so Daewoo aren't oozing with Street Cred but this little car has loads to offer and unlike the Rover 216 the engine and gearbox won't fall apart. I did have reservations of buying one as they have a bit of an OAP's reputation and I am only 26 years old. Also my husband is 6'5" so I was ...
...astonishment. We bought our Daewoo used but still got the remainder of the manufacturers warranty and membership to the AA. The prices are extremely reasonable and they really do have models to please everyone. Once you get over the stigma attached to the Daewoo name then you really do bag yourself a fantastic little motor. We shall definately be buying a Daewoo again and I recommend you take a look at what they have to offer. ...

Daewoo Lanos 1.6 Automatic Saloon - Beautiful!

Advantages: reliable, hard working, good looking, spacious, comfortable,
Disadvantages: retail value drops a terrifying amount which is good for second handers.

My Daewoo Lanos 1.6 Automatic saloon is a real find. It was my first Daewoo and I have had it from new since August 2003. I've never had a problem or fault with it and it feels spacious, luxurious in many ways and I can't fault the car or the Daewoo service. My only problem is that Daewoo does not hold it's value. I was shocked to have spent nearly £10,000 on it and to find two years later that is was worth £2400 but as I intend to keep it, it is ...
...the gears, the car feels stable and secure on the road, and even in high winds. The car parts are quick, easy and cheap to get (I needed a new side mirror and had no problem getting hold of one that same day) and the whole car feels more substantial and hard wearing than many. The petrol tank doesn't hold as much as I would like but this is hardly a major problem. I would happily replace this car with another the same and so would recommend this ...

OK car - shame about the dealer

Advantages: Plenty of car for the money
Disadvantages: New dealer network is patchy

...Lanos second hand direct from Daewoo - it was 5 months old, had under 1000 miles on the clock and still had "new car smell". In the five years we have owned it, it has mostly given us trouble free motoring, largely due to the 3 year warranty on fixed price servicing that Daewoo UK used to offer. The only real trouble we've had has been with the timing belt, which I'm told is always a problem with these GM-based engines. Ours snapped at 30k miles, ...
...Daewoo UK (now defunct) were very good, fixing the whole thing under warranty, throwing in the 30k service and giving us a courtesy car for two weeks while they did it! Unfortunately, when GM bought Daewoo Motors they didn't want the UK subsidary, and so it was allowed to go bust and GM-Daewoo just started up a chain of franchise dealers. My local dealer is now some 20 miles away, and the servicing is definately not fixed price, although you could ...

Nice reliable car

Advantages: Very reliable, nice to drive
Disadvantages: cheap interiors

high so you can make turns fast without the danger losing control - mine came very well equiped for his year, 2 airbags, electric panoramic sun roof, 14" alloys, ABS, 4 electric windows, assisted sterring wheel.. etc... - one more thing this car brakes very very well, i had cars with ABS but this one stops imediatly. - i usally drive fast and the engine never says no, or problems came. Before i had an ford fiesta 1.1 '91, opel vectra 1.6 '97, seat ibiza 1.3 '94, daewoo lanos 1.3 '97, ford fiesta 1.8D '96, fiat punto 1.2 16v '00, and now the Demio that i consider one of the best cars i've owned. - the only thing i didn't like were the cheap plastic interiors... but i think is only looks, because the car doesnt make interior noises or skeeks. ...
