From personal experience with the Daewoo Matiz (w Reg) i would not recommend this car. I was insured on this car but it belonged to my brother, and it had faults since we bought it. Maybe it was due to the fact that the car was not new, but even after we carried out repairs on it, the problems remained the same. Our first problem with the car was the clunky gears, they were hard to move and often got stuck and made weird noises! It was annoying to say the least, but it was a problem my brother could just cope with considering it was low priced However, on the way to work one morning, on a 70mph dual carriageway, my brother was driving at 20mph and i told him to put his foot down, but he did, the car just had lost all of its power for no apparent reason. After calling the RAC, we were advised to take it to a garage for a look over, and they told us it was leaking rusty water. So they repaired the part where it was leaking from (which cost £120) and the car ran fine, for 2 weeks. Coming onto the motorway one day, the car lost all power again and the temperature gauge started to rapidly increase in temperature, so we had no option but to pull over into the hard shoulder and call the RAC, again. They told us it was leaking again, and the engine could of had some damage to it as it nearly blew when the temp gauge went so high. We decided not to get it repaired again as my brother lost trust in the cars reliabiliity and we sold it, for a mere £150!!! Other general problems with the car was the total lack of power and pull behind it, it barely moved and took ages for it to accelerate up to 60mph. The car did have good aspects, dont get me wrong, but the bad points left us more than dissapointed and often late for work!! The car on the inside wasnt amazing, but it was very spacious and comfortable to drive in. The appearance of the car wasnt too bad, but it looked a bit like a box!Another good point about the car was it was excellent for fuel consumption, costing just over £30 to fill a tank and you got a fair few miles out of it. So, although this may look like an ideal first car due to really low insurance and tax, i recommend if your really interested, do not buy an older version, instead try the new matiz made by chevrolet to avoid problems like this.
