I've just moved out of halls into a HUGE new house with my friends and feller and realised.. we don't have a cleaner to come and hover our mess?!?!?!?! AHHH!!! "O cripes!" I said, alarmed and afraid, "we'll have to buy a cheapo one, I'm skint!". So off I went on the net in the search for a little cheap hover, and this little beast is what I found.
*** Daewoo History ***
This company first went into home electronics on 1971. The company is actually based in Korea and the names comes from two Korean words; dae, meaning big and woo, meaning universe.
So welcome to the big universe of washing machines, digital TV, the first company to come up with those shiny silver drum things that whiz round in you video recorder and, obviously, vacuum cleaners!
*** What It Looks Like ***
Well most obvious and apparent is its yellow at the top of the vacuum and grey everywhere else. There is black bold writing at the top nearest the back that says in big capitals DAEWOO, below it in smaller letter is 1300W and then below that in tiny weenie letters is 350 watts suction power.
It has long grey tubing which constitutes the hose and attached to it is 2 long grey pipes of equal length and at the bottom there is the option to have either the supplied foot or custom built crevice nozzles. You can get these from Daewoo itself or from specialist shops. Each of the grey pipes made of plastic can be detached for the taller or shorter person or for ease when you are hovering things like stairs. The foot itself has to different switches for brushes up or down. You would have the brushes up when hovering hard surfaces and brushes down for normal everyday carpet cleaning.
There are 2 grey wheels which allow you to pull the hover along. They glide quite easily but there is a problem with the gliding that I'll come to later. On the opposite side of the wheels is a handle large enough to get to hands in and just below that, next to where the hose sticks out from is a window. This window comes in great handiness because it tells you when the bag is full! The clever addition to the hover goes red when the bag is getting full and apparently, says the good old instruction book, if it has been on for about 3 days then it is definitely full and it's time to change the bag (I will also come to this later on).
On the either side of the hover at the back are two grey panels which stick out against the bright yellow. These two panels operate the power supply to the machine and a the other, a wonderful lazy invention.. the power assisted cord retractor!! Perfect for students who really cant be arsed!
There are a few handy little other things which you have to look closely for and they are on the under belly of the hover. One is the crevice nozzle holders that simply slot in and the other is a little clip that allows you to clip the piping and foot so tidy storage.
*** Fitting It All Together ***
The hover came with an instructions booklet, but really, who read them?!?! It's a hover!! But I thought, no, I'll be good and read it so that I can tell the good ciao peeps how to work it. So here are the basics - Hose connection:- there is hole by the window I talked about for when it gets full. Simple wedge the hose into the hole, give it a good push (or hammer it in as I found) and wait for the click. When you hear that, it's in - Putting in the bag simply open the cover at the front and hold it open whilst removing the bag. Do this by wiggling it back and forth till it comes free. When it is, you have the option to either replace with a new one by just slotting it in to where the other one came from, or you can economise by pouring out the old one and reusing. There are consequences with doing this because the bag gets a bit worn and if it breaks half way through cleaning you're going to have a broken and messy hover! - Cleaning the filters There are two filters which are cleaned exactly the same. The exhaust filter which is located at the top of the machine just needs slipping out and given a good shake, preferably outside. The other is the motor protection filter which stands upright by the bag. Again, slip it out and give it a good shake.
*** Safety Issues and Tips ***
Some safety issues are obvious to most people but it's best to display them just in case you are my boyfriend who thinks its ok to suck up the odd lighter, a pen or some cling film.. just for fun..
1) don't pick up anything that is wet or moist such as a puddle of water or petrol 2) on the subject of petrol, neither should you pick up with the hover anything that is flammable, like lighters (stooped Daniel) or matches 3) don't pick up anything that might burst or rip the bag inside like needles or pins 4) when you are retracting the plus with the motor, hold the plug because sometimes it retracts so fast you end up with the plug whipping up in the air and lodged firmly in your left nostril. 5) You shouldn't pull the cable out to far neither because it could disconnect from the hover and ultimately break 6) Also with the cable, if you have broken or torn it so that the wires inside it are visible, don't try and fix it yourself (stooped Daniel) otherwise you could end up electrocuting yourself and starting a fire. And if you do this you won't get your money back off the guarantee because it doesn't cover unprofessional bodges.
*** If I have Problems With The Hover, What Should I Do? ***
The instruction booklet gave me a list of problems that frequently occur and ways in which you could fix them yourself.
- if suction is weak either your dust bag is full or you have some sort of blockage in the pipes. Just give the pipe a good shake or a poke with a coat hanger and all should be well. - if you can't get it to start up first of all, make sure it's plugged in (stooped Daniel!) and switched on at the mains. After that, make sure you have pressed the power button on the machine. After that, check the fuses. And if all that doesn't work it's probably broken so call the manufacturer (number is below) - if the cord doesn't rewind there is a little knack to it I have found. The instruction book says pull it out a little and then press the button again. But what I like to do is hold the button down and feed the wire, it will go in a little bit and then stop, just keeo feeding it and it will eventually go in.
*** Specs ***
The exact model is RC320FP Watts:- 1300W Weight:- 3.8kg Dimensions (LxWxH):- 446 x 284 x 217 mm Cord length:- 5 metres
*** Guarantee Conditions ***
With your hover you will get a 12 months manufacturers guarantee. This covers any faults that are the fault of bad materials or bad workmanship but it will never cover anything accidental, any damage by the user or misuse of it in any way. They specify it is solely for domestic purposes and will not cover the product if you have taken it to an inexpert for repairs first. You have to take it straight to the manufacturers if you think it is their fault. If you don't think it is theirs and you think it's yours try taking it back to the store you got it from, no will know tee hee hee!
*** Bits and Bobs ***
You can buy additional dust bags from anywhere as most as a standard fit, but if you want perfect matches, there is a store online which sells them for £4.50 for 5 or £8 for 10, type into google "cheap Daewoo rc320 dustbags" and it will come up with loads. The actual hover though comes with 3 for free, bargain!
*** What Sarah Bear Thinks (most important part of review!) ***
Well, it's been a long review of things that don't really matter to the real person, it is what the actual user thinks, and I think… it's not too bad a hover. It is light and really easy to carry which has big pluses in a house with 3 floors and approx. a million stairs. It's colourful and bright and ultimately, does the job. But I have a few reservations.
First of all, it is so light to pull along that it keeps toppling over onto its sides or upside down. Now I don't know if it is just me but I think I lose power every time it falls down and I have to go back to the hover, pick it up, start again and then it falls over!!! It's much easier if you keep hold of it at all times but then it restricts movement and does start to get heavy after 20 minute of solid cleaning!
Secondly the suction power isn't really that good as it makes out. When you have both pipes on so that you aren't slouched it doesn't pick everything up, when you take a pipe off it's a bit better but you are bent all the time. And finally, if you really want a clean carpet and get everything up, u have to take al the pipes off and use the tiny bit of plastic pipe that is attached to the hose to really get anything up. As you can imagine, after a party it's a bit of a ball ache!!
Thirdly, although it is nice to have a nice small hover, the bag inside it really small!! I reckon one would last 2 weeks maximum so if you calculate how often you need to buy bags if you buy 5 at a time, you would be spending about £24 a year on just bags for it!
I can't really complain much about it because it was cheap and you do get what you pay for. It does the job you just need to work hard for it! i've added some contact details in case you want them for any reason and also I found out that you can get this gem for only £39.99 (I paid £45 but I forget where from) from electrocentre.co.uk including VAT and free delivery!
Advantages: very cheap to buy Disadvantages: needs eight bags a year
...only this one. It's a Daewoo RC320F Cylinder Vacuum Cleaner.
~The Look~
-------------
It's a banana yellow plastic body with grey pipes and brush. I liked that clearly. It's got a roller at the front which twists around 360 degrees with big 5 "double round wheels at the back side. The stick is gray with a flexible hose attached to it about five feet long. It's also got a five foot hard plastic stick with a brush on the end. It's very useful brush ... ...also streatchable. It can be streatch up to 2O ft. Again, the wheel on the front being twistable 360 degrees is so flexible as such that, it can move any direction, anywhere. The wheel is made of soft rubber and covers a lower low density hard rubber inner wheel which looks like it is durable. ~Weight~
-------------
As for the weight it is not going to be a concern for any, I could tell you that, it's so lite comparable to any other companies models ...
