--Background--
We bought this car as a second car, two years ago. Previously, my wife had had the Daewoo Nexia for over 3 years with very little problems. We knew that Daewoo offered us no thrills but we also liked the smooth ride it gave. In the end we settled on a 51 reg CDX which set up back £4000.
--From the outside--
For those of you that are not aware, the Tacuma is classed as an MPV. I would say the shape is now slightly dated and I would liken the shape to the Renault Scenic. This model comes with the roof bars as standard and alloy wheels.
--From the drivers seat--
Road visibility is very good as you are higher up than a normal car. Saying that, I can not see the end of the bonnet from the drivers position. I am 5ft 10 so maybe someone significantly taller would not have a problem. The dashboard certainly does not have any wow factor about it but it is adaquate. The mileometer is digital as you would expect for a car of this age. The speedometer is still analogue how ever which I must admit, I prefer. The centre console is quite nicely designed. The car came with a Sony 6CD autochanger unit as standard, the disc carousel being located in a compartment in the boot. Below the stereo are the heat controls. There are two dials, one for the method of heat (top vents, windscreen, feet, etc) and one for the temperature. Alongside these dials are buttons to switch on the air conditioning and the type of air circulation (outside air or not). Below these controls, there are basic drink holders that are big enough for 2 standards sized cans of coke.
Moving over to the passenger side, there is a glove compartment which is not very big. This however is made up for by the two storage trays located under both fnrot seats.
The car comes with both a driver and a passenger airbag.
--Backseat driver details--
The first thing you will notice when sitting in the back is the fact that you have acres of space. This car is so deceptive, from the outside it doesnt look that big, but from the inside you'll soon change your mind. There is plenty of legroom even for the biggest of people. The model we bought also came with underfoot storage which is big enough to take 5 or 6 A4 pads of paper which will keep the kids amused on those long journeys. Also standard are lunch trays which fold out from the front seats. These include enough space to spread your food out and a hole where you can safely place your drink.
--In the boot--
Boot space is generous, even without folding the seats forward. As previously mentioned, there is a compartment where the CD carousel goes. This is towards the outside of the car which means it is easily accessible, even if you have an almost full boot. There is also a 9 volt adapter in the boot which is ideal for running a small travel fridge off, should you decide to go on a picnic.
--In the pocket--
The Tacuma is group 7 insurance which works out at about £350 for my wife with full no claims bonus. However, the real killer is the road tax which comes in at a whopping £190. This is a lot of money for a car of this class, so much that we actually considdered replacing the car but decided not to. Fuel economy is not that hot either, averaging around 30mpg.
--Verdict--
This car is not going to turn any heads, that is not Daewoos style. They do however, give you excellent value for money. This is a nice car but the running costs are slightly higher than I would have liked.
Advantages: Cheap to buy with low mileage available at low cost Disadvantages: Thirsty Petrol Tank
...wife and I bought a Daewoo Tacuma 2.0 CDX Automatic, manufactured in 2003. Our previous car had been very trustworthy, but with around 100k on the clock, and limited space with our growing family we really needed a new car. Our old one was beginning to fall apart too, and was becoming a source of embarrassment to be honest.
The only problem was, we hardly had any money to spend and we had to get a car very cheaply, but it had to be reliable and ... ...too. This was a challenge and had been stressing me out for a month or so.
After perusing many car dealerships, car publications, etc, I saw the Tacuma in a garage. It was the right size, immaculate inside and out, and had only done 26,000 miles.
Now, I understand that this car is not economical. However, generally speaking we do very few miles and I cycle to work and back whenever I can. So where this car would be highly unsuitable for a family ...

Advantages: Spacious, storage compartments Disadvantages: very poor Fuel efficancy, slow to pull away & rather gutless uphill
Our 1.8 2001 Yreg was purchased on h.p a litle over a year & a half ago we got it on finance for 3 years and are counting the days down until we can part company.

Advantages: spacious, cd changer Disadvantages: slow, too many faults
We have had our daewoo tacuma for two years now and I will not be buying another one. The car is spacious and the back seats go down so that large items can fit in but I found the interier to be too plastic which marks very easily. After driving a proton persona which is very fast at taking off and going up hills, this car is like driving a tank! I feel like a granny crossing the road when I want to pull out. It is so slow that I have to make sure ... ...pull out. Also going up a hill is a bit of a struggle. People in the back of the car want to get out and push!
Our car has been in the garage six times so far. The front light had water inside, which had to be changed twice, the stereo broke twice, the alarm wouldnt work, and the water for the windscreen wouldnt squirt. Oh and the back warning lights went off randomly.
I like the shape , the cd changer and the spacious aspect of this car but sadly ...

I got my Tacuma last September 2004 new up to now I have had no problems at all with it apart from the paint work which seems to be rather fragile, mind you I am comparing that to my last car a Peugeot 206 (almost bullet proof that thing.) Advantages: space and cupholders Disadvantages: the millenium falcon factor
We bought our Daewoo Tacuma two and a half years ago. I know this because this month we can finally and gleefully give it back to the finance company.
We upgraded from the Matiz, as with a one year old daughter and a pram that didn't fit in the tiny boot, we were finding life a trial. Also, it was seriously curtailing my shopping on a journey home from England, which would never do.
So, we went for the Tacuma, and at first all was well. The extra ... ...I have been told by Daewoo that this is a feature of the fuel-injection system, so that is nice, if a little different.
Then the stereo broke twice, before they finally decided to replace it. Apparently this was because I turned the car off in the wrong fashion. Quite what the right fashion is, I'm not sure.
Then the petrol gauge stopped working. They fixed it the first time by wiping it clean (I kid you not), then replacing it. It has been replaced ...

Advantages: Comfortably smooth, cost effectively elegant, superbly designed Disadvantages: Poor economy, some naff dealers, not suited for the tall
these cars, (sorry mini-MPVs). They are simply magnificent, well designed, nicely equipped and are also very refined for what they cost. Their value for money is great, especially the "SE Extras" (basically the SVE specification, without ESP, and SatNav).
After seeing the older pre-2003 Tino's it was a good job that we waited for the new interior design gurus to reformat the styling too, making the price of the new shiny model very attractive indeed. (Actually even better value than "Second-hand" demonstrators, because of all the extra benefits of buying new). We have NEVER done it before because we didn't believe in it until the special price of the Tino caught our eye on the internet!
We looked at several alternatives e.g. DaewooTacuma, Skoda Fabia Estate. For the nearest equivelant spec, they would BOTH have cost us MORE with less ...
