~ ~ We’re all probably now aware of Daewoo, the giant motoring manufacturers from Korea, who have been making big inroads in recent years into the highly competitive European car market, with such models as the Matiz, Lanos, Nubira, and Leganza, and now with their most recent models, the Tacuma, Korando, and Musso. In the relatively short while they have been selling cars here, they have built a solid reputation for reliability and extremely competitive pricing, taking the Japanese giants on at their own game by adding loads of “extras” to their cars at no additional cost to the motorist.
~ ~ So it was with great interest, and not a little amusement, that I read this week that they are to take up the cudgels for the hard-done-by British motorist in a totally new and novel fashion. Johnny “Two Jags” Prescott, the Transport Minister and Labour M.P. for Hull East, and the man blamed by many for things like the high cost of fuel, the awful state of British roads, and the exceptionally high tax charged on new car sales, now has a brand new battle to worry about. It comes in the pretty shape of 26-year-old Cambridge graduate and TV presenter Liz Fraser, who will be running against him in the forthcoming General Election under the banner of (wait for it) the “That’ll Be The Daewoo Party”. Liz is changing her name especially for the election campaign to Farrah Deal, in her bid to win a “Fairer Deal” for British motorists.
~ ~ The whole exercise is all a bit “tongue in cheek”, but Daewoo hope that it will help to highlight to the public such important issues as the high price of petrol tax, the further development of LPG (see my op, plug plug!!) as an alternative fuel, the reform of many outdated speed limits, and more use of advanced driving lessons to help with road safety. They have developed a special logo for the “new party”, based, off course, on the Daewoo badge, and have also had a large batch of special campaign rosettes made up. In fact these rosettes will not be any colour at all, but totally “clear”, which Daewoo say is to illustrate its desire to see a “transparent” transport policy adopted. The public is also to be bombarded with free Daewoo T-shirts, pens and keyrings bearing the “party” logo, and Daewoo are combining this with a massive billboard poster campaign in order to publicise their election bid.
~ ~ This is the first time a car manufacturer has ever attempted such an audacious and cheeky advertising campaign, and so far Daewoo claim that the public response has been very positive. I must say it certainly caught my attention, and well done to the clever marketing person who came up with the idea. Now I wonder what price I can get on Farrah and Daewoo with the bookies????????
...very pleased with the excellent Daewoo deal. Can you name another car manufacturer who will offer 3 years warranty with 3 years free servicing plus free courtesy car, 3 years AA cover etc.? Our first new Daewoo was a Nexia, and we changed that after 3 years for a new Lanos. We have been delighted with both cars, and particularly with the excellent service from Daewoo. We were most fortunate to receive 3 years free insurance with our first car too, ...

I bought my lovely new Daewoo Lanos back in August 98. A great little car with no problems at all. I also won a trip to Korea with this car and despite being caught in a typhoon for hours on a bus, I cam home with even more positive statements about the professionalism of the company.

Having purchased my 2000 Matiz new for AUD $11,000.00 and having traded in a large station wagon, i was impressed with the Interior Size of the Matiz.
The vehicle comes equipped with a CD Player, Air Conditioning and Power Front Windows.
Since purchasing the car, i have fitted Alloy Wheels and Roof Racks.
It is more spacious than a number of other micro cars, with a large amount of rear legroom even when the front seats are fully back.
The fuel ... ...with our summer temperatures consistantly over 37deg Celsius and having to use the air conditioning full time, my matiz is returning 16km per litre or approx 44 miles per gallon in the city and 18.5km per litre or 53 miles per gallon in the country at a constant speed of 110km per hour.
The only downside to the matiz has been the ongoing Transmission and brake problems.
Second and third gears have been replaced four times as well as the synchro ...

If you are under the age of 40 you probably would not be seen dead in a Daewoo. At the age of 50 I certainly thought more than once before taking the plunge. However, their range of models is certainly worth a look. Personally, I do not like the Lanos range and have not driven a leganza but I have been impressed with the nubira saloon and more so the nubira estate. They are comfortably enough for a long drive and quite zippy. I have found road holding ... ...with a large family or goods to transport. Prices remain good when comparing against other companies and I think it is fair to say were it not for Daewoo, who to some extent shook up the market, we would not see so many extras being offered by their competitors. They seem still to offer good value and when one takes into account their service and warranty arrangements it would be foolish not to at least have a look and a test drive. Of, course they ...

We bought a Daewoo Matiz SE in December last year. So far, so good.
Cost price was £6440. 3 years service warranty, 3 years breakdown service, 1 years road tax + 1 years car insurance were all included in the package.
The Daewoo carrying capacity was 796 cc. The price as of 20/11/00 was £6595. It does about 34 miles per gallon in urban areas and about 55 miles per gallon on motorways. It hold 35 litres of unleaded petrol and comes with a catalytic ... ...to compare different ranges of Daewoo cars.
There is a reception area which will point you in the right direction. There is also an after sales area for dealing with servicing, spare parts etc. There is also a nice area for free tea, coffee, chocomilk + 5 other drinks facilities. There are toilet facilities for the disabled. Daewoo has been recommended by Motability. There is background music playing all the time which is pleasant. There is also ...

--Background--
We bought this car as a second car, two years ago. Previously, my wife had had the Daewoo Nexia for over 3 years with very little problems. We knew that Daewoo offered us no thrills but we also liked the smooth ride it gave. In the end we settled on a 51 reg CDX which set up back £4000.
--From the outside--
For those of you that are not aware, the Tacuma is classed as an MPV. I would say the shape is now slightly dated and I would liken the shape to the Renault Scenic. This model comes with the roof bars as standard and alloy wheels.
--From the drivers seat--
Road visibility is very good as you are higher up than a normal car. Saying that, I can not see the end of the bonnet from the drivers position. I am 5ft 10 so maybe someone significantly taller would not have a problem. The dashboard certainly ...

Advantages: Spacious Disadvantages: It leaked rusty water, lost all power and had clunky gears
From personal experience with the Daewoo Matiz (w Reg) i would not recommend this car. I was insured on this car but it belonged to my brother, and it had faults since we bought it. Maybe it was due to the fact that the car was not new, but even after we carried out repairs on it, the problems remained the same.
Our first problem with the car was the clunky gears, they were hard to move and often got stuck and made weird noises! It was annoying to say the least, but it was a problem my brother could just cope with considering it was low priced
However, on the way to work one morning, on a 70mph dual carriageway, my brother was driving at 20mph and i told him to put his foot down, but he did, the car just had lost all of its power for no apparent reason. After calling the RAC, we were advised to take it to a garage for a look over ...

Daewoo Matiz (1998 - 2005)
Well its been a while but here we go, its time for yet again another review straight from the horses mouth (Note : Im not a horse lol)
Well anyway, me being a first time driver, I wanted something that wouldnt have me out the door with payments for tax and insurance, didnt guzzle petrol like no tomorrow, and was CHEAP.....not to mention a steering wheel and set of four tyres to come in handy I guess...
I first start looking at the nissan micra (no NOT that one, the ones from 00-03 that come equipped with power steering and airbags) but even at THAT I couldnt afford it.....not to mention the fact it reminded me of a BEETLE or some other insect of some sort.
Then I seen it....
2002
Sunburnt orange
Small
Cute and Perky
Smiling (swear it does!)
AND BEST OF ALL.....
Didnt look as if it ...
