Advantages: Lots of power, good looks
Disadvantages: Insurance, hard to get parts for

The Daihatsu Charade wasn’t a car I was thinking about buying when I was looking through Auto Trader, infact, I had never heard of it before. This was until I went to the local garage which I swore I would never go too as their prices are a bit on the steep side and spotted what I thought was quite a groovy looking car in stunning red that had the look of a bit of a beast about it. I looked at it a couple of times while driving ...
...car in question is a Daihatsu Charade GSXi 1.6. What this means is that it is nothing like the Daihatsu charades from the 80’s you see going around, oh no, this one is one of the few made GSXi ones which basically means you get the following: Front and Rear Spoilers, Electric Windows, Sunroof, ABS, Power Steering, Electric Windows, Central Locking, Alarm, Immobiliser, Alloys and some form of Air Con. It’s a 94 M reg model which I paid just over £1300 ... more

just crap!

Advantages: never broken down
Disadvantages: lots

My mum has one of these and it is the worst car i have ever driven, i have nothing against automatics but this one only has 3 gears! this is made even worse by the 16V engine that only has power high in the rev range, so changes up always drop you out of the power band. So you would think the manul would be ok? well i dont think so because the handling is terrible, it really has no grip going round corners at all, it just feels all wrong when pushed, ...
...at all. On top of this is the crap driving position, uncomfy seats and the nasty plastic/glue smell that has stayed with the car even though it is 8 years old now. Its a bit of a shame really because the car does look good, being a GLXI it has the same bumpers/spoiler as the GTI and has '16V EFI' written on the side in inch high letters, A sheep in wolfs clothing. (this is about the old style model c1992 not the new one) ...

I love my Charade!

Advantages: Economical for tax and fuel, a cinch to park and a surprising roomy cabin.
Disadvantages: Handling on corners isn't great, plus the boot is very small.

I bought my Daihatsu Charade from my mother, who didn't drive it enough to warrant keeping it. Therefore, I chose the car due to its low mileage and knowledge of its history, rather than any particular fondness of this make and model. Three months later, and I am a Daihatsu Charade convert! 2004 EL models like mine currently seem to retail for £3700 - 4000. It is extremely economical in terms of taxation and petrol consumption. A round trip from Swansea to Maidstone cost approximately £30 in fuel! Plus my new tax disc just cost me £35 for the whole year, due to its low CO2 emissions. I drive the Charade regularly on the motorway, and find it has surprising 'get up and go' for such a small engined car, due to its 58 bhp and light body. It is very reliable; starts every time and thus far I have had no problems with it at all - it ...

, and ever increasing traffic. Any way, whilst taking my car (a Skoda Fabia) for its annual service to our local dealer, we discovered that they are also a dealer for Daihatsu, whereupon we came across the Daihatsu Materia. We fell in love with it straight away, as we must admit that we could not remember seeing one on the road before. We loved it so much we bought it. Read on to find out why. Cure for Summer Madness

Advantages: Great engine, Neat interior, Character, Economy, VED £40 , Insurance-Group 1
Disadvantages: Low speed ride, No auto light for passenger door, Rear wiper too short

country lanes very well Wind noise is not apparent on motorways, and the louder background from the road and engine is not really enough to interfere with conversation or enjoying the radio. Overall the cabin is reasonably peaceful for such a tiny, light, and relatively sporty machine Brakes '' Anti-lock braking with 'EBD' and 'CSC' refinements to help on corners is standard The normal servo-assistance is quite strong, while the feel of the brakes is nicely progressive and braking power more than adequate for such a light car Engine An aluminium 998cc three-cylinder 'VVTi' petrol engine gives 67 brake horsepower (50kW) at 6,000rpm and (69lb ft) 93Nm torque at 3,600rpm. I think this is derived from the Toyota engine first seen in the UK in the late 1970s in the G10 Daihatsu Charade. In those ...
