When it comes to butter I have always been a bit of a purist, only settling for the real stuff. However when my local supermarket started selling Clover cheaper than its normal butter I decided to... more

Advantages Advantages Easily spreadable, widely available

Disadvantages Disadvantages Packaging not easily distinguishable from other brands

I have never just stuck to one brand of margarine. I usually buy a different one each week – Clover, Utterly Butterly, Flora, Olivio, you name it. I do prefer some to others though, and I must say the more buttery it tastes, the better. I love butter – I buy real butter as well, but in my house the central heating is always on so if I leave it out it looks like water, so I have to put it in the fridge where it is too hard to spread on sandwiches straight off and when I get a “need sandwich now” snack feeling, I can’t wait for the butter to warm up a bit!! The spread that I am using at the ... more

    1. Life B.C. (Before Clover) When I was little we used to use butter. Not on everything because that would be just plain silly. But on bread and stuff. But once I moved out I realised that this wasn't perhaps the healthiest of options. So I meandered around with margarine and did not believe any of the do not believe gimmicks. But on one blessed voyage to the hallowed ground of Tesco I happened upon a little yellow and my life took a turn for the better. Well, my toast did anyhow. In my haste to get this product home I lost my reciept, but I hazzard a guess at around 70p. Ok I am disorganised ... more

    Advantages Advantages Tastes Nice.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Lots of Calories, Quite a few E Numbers.

I have decided to write a Margarine review, OK I know that it's a very boring subject but I recently bought myself a tub of Clover Margarine and when I opened my fridge door this morning it was sat there on the shelf screaming "review me...review me...". So I will begin with a little bit of background information. THE BACKGROUND Clover Margarine is made in the UK by Dairy Crest Limited who are a major manufacturer of many other dairy products including St Ivel Gold. Dairy Crest launched Clover back in 1983 claiming that it was the world's first ever spread that could be used straight from the ... more

    Advantages Advantages Nice taste

I was quite suprised to see this under the `Margerine` category to be honest. As a child, I was a total nightmare for my mother. I would not eat cheese, butter, cream nor drink milk. I hated dairy products. I do not know why, just despised the taste. Several years ago, after trying numerous dairy/butter spreads I found Clover. That was it, I was hooked. Clover comes in 3 sizes. I always buy the medium size which is 500g and this costs me about £1.19 from Tesco. Clover comes in a fairly distinctive soft yellow tub. Nice and easy to open and has a paper cover over the top for you to remove ... more

Advantages Advantages Tastes gorgeous and is suitable for cooking too

Disadvantages Disadvantages It's those calories again!

Oh dear this special offer down at Costcutters is no good for my diet at all! The Clover spread is currently on sale for 71p for a 500g tub as compared to £1.11 in Tesco’s, and sadly for my weight problem, it tastes lovely! Clover comes in an attractive butter coloured tub with the word ‘Clover’ in green across the top and sides together with the logo of a clover leaf. When you remove the lid for the first time there is a protective layer of greaseproof paper over the top of the spread. It says on the lid of the tub – traditionally churned with fresh buttermilk for spreading – and it spreads ... more
