boy ever had. Danny feels very lucky. He adores his life with his father, living in a gypsy caravan, listening to his stories, tending their gas station, puttering around the workshop, and occasionally taking off to fly home-built gas balloons and kites. His father has raised him on his own, ever since Danny's mother died when he was four months old. Life is peaceful and wonderful ... until he turns 9 and discovers his father's one vice. Soon Danny finds himself the mastermind behind the most incredible plot ever attempted against nasty Victor Hazell, a wealthy landowner with a bad attitude. Can they pull it off? If so, Danny will truly be the champion of the world. Danny is right up to Roald Dahl's impishly brilliant standards. An intense and beautiful father-son relationship is balanced with subtle escapades that will have even the most rigid law-abider rooting them on. Dahl's inimitable way with words leaves the reader simultaneously satisfied and itching for more. (Ages 9 to 13) --Emilie Coulter

Advantages: Beautiful story and Characters Disadvantages: Don`t be daft it`s by Roald Dahl
...led us both into……”
Danny lives with his father in an old gypsy caravan behind the filling station they own, it had been this way since Danny’s Mother had died when he was just four months old and Danny would not have it any other way. But Danny’s father had a secret, a longing that he had kept in check ... ...to when Danny was nine years old. Danny awoke one night to notice the absence of his fathers steady breathing, a quick look in his bed confirmed that he was not asleep nor was he in the workshop next to the filling station. Champion Review ofDanny the Champion of the World - Roald Dahlby

Advantages: Superb kids book Disadvantages: simple
...when I saw Roald Dahl’s Danny Champion of the World I couldn’t help myself, I justified myself by thinking I’d write a review on it, so this is my justification. Danny was my favorite book as a kid; I think I bought it from the puffin club for about 15p. I managed to pack it in over a couple of days on the train; I did get a few strange looks from fellow commuters but what the hell.
The book is wonderfully simple as is Danny’s ... ...Danny’s Father brings Danny up by himself and takes every opportunity to keep him entertained and not treat him like a kid (a lesson to all parents!!), there are a couple of great scenes where Danny flies kites and fire balloons (inspirational, one day I’m going to do that with my kids). His father also tells Danny wonderful stories about the Big Friendly Giant, the BFG, Dahl later turned the BFG into a full story of it’s own. All ...

Advantages: Contains many ideals and much enjoyment Disadvantages: Could encourage people to poach pheasants! (Joking!)
...though- he is a poacher! Danny deals with wanting to know more about this part of his father's life as a number of bigger problems arise. How will Danny and his father cope with difficulties from the local landowner, the schoolteacher who is quick to physically punish his pupils, and gamekeepers' traps, amongst other things? *****************************************
Roald Dahl admitted that many of the ideas in this book came from his own childhood, ... ...You feel the panic as Danny desperately tries to drive the baby austin when his father is injured; you empathise with the folk of the town and their feelings toward their oppressor; you feel the tears welling up as Danny experiences the appalling bullying tactics of the so called 'schoolteacher'; you share in his pride at the wonderful parenting he receives. The ideas are witty and amusing, yet perhaps because of their origins, always seem realistic. ...

The Best... Review ofDanny the Champion of the World - Roald Dahlby

Advantages: Makes you really involved Disadvantages: nothing
Danny and his father live in a gypsy caravan behind a filling station. Danny loves his father very much and thinks that his father is the best and often boasts about him. However Danny learns a dark secret of his fathers and tries to help him with his secret (which I will not reveal, read the book!). However Danny and his father fall into difficulties and Danny has to take responsibilty, will all go to plan?
I absolutely loved this book and I truly ... ...how much Danny's father loved Danny but how much fathers love their children. This made me feel really special and loved whilst reading this book. The way the book is written its as though its happening to you and it all felt so real for me. Occasionally I felt myself shout something out loud because I just got so involved in this book. The way Danny is treated by various people i.e. his teacher made me sob yet the way his father treated him made ...
