Perfect as an audio book for people of any age. The story has been lovingly read and sounds amazing over the audio cassette. I found it the perfect way to fall asleep listening to roald dahl's magical amd loving tale of Danny and his father. The audio book consists of two tapes each with two sides and runs for approximately 2 3/4 hours which took me three weeks to listen to at bedtime. The book is read by Timothy West who has got the most amazing voice that brings the story to life. The tape also features music designed to dramatise the events. The times said of Roald Dahl 'the most inventive and origional childrens writer of our times.' The plot of the story is:
Danny is a young boy brought up solely by his father (a mechanic) and a wonderful man whom he loves very much, his father tells him amazing bedtime stories of all his adventures. But Danny's father has a secret one that he tries to hide from Danny. He is a poacher and frequently strays onto the land of the local pheasant keeper to take a few birds. Nobody likes the pheasants owner and thereforewhen Danny finds out instead of being disgusted in his father he hatches a cunning plan which involves sleeping pills in order to steal the pheasants and embarrass the keeper the day before his big shoot. It is a thrilling tale for anyone up to the age of 12 and perfect for a parent to sit with the child in bed and listen to as a bedtime story to get them off to sleep.
