Ok so very expensive chips but thats the best title i could come up with!
When I bought this product it was very cheap at the time £70 from Tescos. The main selling point for me was the price. However there is an extra bonus to be had because the dansai 1010 can be unlocked via the factory settings in your own home to turn it into a multi-region DVD player making the price of the DVD player even better for what you get for the money!
APPERANCE A nice cool silver colour (noticing a trend in the products that I buy-there all silver!) and the buttons are ergonomically designed to fit in just right to the front of the player. There are all the basic buttons on the front such as play stop etc. but you will need the remote to operate the other functions (see features). The unit is quite big and chunky compared to some of the players available on the market today so wouldn’t recommend this to anyone who doesn’t have much space!
SETTING UP THE PLAYER Now this is where you normally have problem but to my absolute delight I found this very easy to use-it came with the scart lead and the instructions were very easy to read and follow. When I turn on my player ad no disc is inserted it even gives me a Tesco help line number in case I ever have any problems with it-how’s that for customer services from Tesco! (Saying that I’ve never had to ring it).
FEATURES The Dansai is also able to play Mp3s, CDs, VCDs and all the usual other optical media products you would expect a DVD player to play. You can speed up and slow down the picture and pause it-I cant really say much as you would expect all of these things from a DVD player and the Dansai has no extra special features that the next DVD player wouldn’t have. So I think that this product is great if you just want something cheap that you can put in the bedroom as spare.
PLAYING DVDs The one let down about this product is the picture quality-normally ok but in films where the screen is dark or the colour is very dark you can see how bad the quality is and you don’t get a very sharp definition-but how many films do you own that are dark in colour the whole way through! Sometimes I find the disc doesn’t always load first time but this has been rectified by laying in a silly position next to the player and blowing in the machine to get rid of the dust-its probably cat hair-the rest of my house is covered in it! But after a quick blow (ahem) the machine is working fine after that-I only have to ‘blow’ the machine very couple of months. The sound is great on the player and I have used this both on a normal 21 inch TV as well as a 28 inch wide screen with surround sound, the player doesn’t have nicam stereo but I have still found that the sound quality is very good for a player with such a low price.
CONCLUSION In conclusion I would say that the Dansai is great for the money-it has a nice interface but is quite a big unit, but does come with a scart lead and a remote control-overall good value for money. I would recommend this product to anyone looking for a cheap player that they could play all formats of DVD on, but not as the main player in your house. I would not recommend this product to someone with the state of the art home surround system and a whopping great big TV-the Dansai just doesn’t fit the picture quite there. I have just seen this player in Blockbusters for now only £44.99, which is a fantastic price for an unlockable-why, not go and have a look?
Thanks for reading and I appreciate your feedback.
Advantages: Cheap in comparison to most other DVD players; fits in with mod cons; plays almost anything Disadvantages: support (or lack of it); not sure about if it could recover after a knock
