As someone who travels a lot to other countries, I purchase a lot of DVD's from overseas. This saves me a lot of money for starters and also allows me to own the film prior to UK release. Prior to owning one of these players, I have had numerous others including those which had been 'chipped'. With a hardware chipped player, certain film studios decided to use a seperate encryption process which would mean that the DVD would not play on machines that had said 'chips' installed. A classic example of this is the Region 1 version of "A Knights Tale".
I purchased a Dansai DVD1010 prior to this one, and although it had all the same functions as the 955, it lacked analogue 5:1 output (which I already owned a 5:1 analogue speaker setup). So I returned the DVD1010 to Tesco & exchanged it for the 955.
The 955 is of a much higher build quality than the DVD1010, especially in respect to the actual DVD drawer unit. Also a clear and concise LCD display is present on the 955 (which is missing from the DVD1010). The remote control on the 955, is also of a much higher quality than the 1010, and also works from various angles (unlike the 1010 which requires a direct straight line of sight).
I did notice that a previous commenter, mentioned that the 955 plays back MPG1/MPG2 ISO & non-authored MPG1/2. This is not correct (unless a newer firmware is available), and although not a criticism, the 955 will only playback MPG footage that is either in VCD/SVCD/DVD/KVCD/XSVCD folder layout on the media it is presented in. I also haven't noticeed the glow in the dark buttons that a previous commenter also mentioned. I may have missed this as the room is never dark enough normally.
MP3 playback is simple and sound quality is very good.

Good op. I got a free PS2 with my new mobile, so I just use that as a DVD player at present but I am considering getting a DVD player in the near future, so I'll consider this one. Cheers. Paul.

Thanks Matt
I bought this player back in January when they were £89.99 (including the 3 Region 2 DVD's as already mentioned by previous commenter)

Advantages: Very good value for price and functions, Buttons on remote glows in dark! Disadvantages: Most controls/function must use remote, which is fine unless you break/lose your remote.
