Firstly I have had to put this opinion in the 852 category as there isn't one for the 952, I thought I would point this out at the beginning. The Dansai 950 is a very practical cheap priced DVD player mine cost me £99.00, I have previously had more expensive machines which seem to behave like primadonas and break down at the drop of a hat,They are also very hard to hack for multi region, unlike the dansai I found a multi region hack very easily on the web and after pushing 4 buttons on the remote it was done (I now buy all my films from America) I have had this player for over a year and it is still going strong. The 952 has all the goodies you expect from the more expensive players. 5:1 Dolby surround sound. Scart socket. S.video socket. Optical line out socket,(to record digital sound to a minidisk recorder or Mp3 recorder). It also plays DVDs CDrs CDrws Mp3s & S-VCDs &VCDs the difference between the 952 and 852 is its size the 952 is very slim but quite wide giving it the look of a much more expensive player.
Dimensions Height: 64mm Width: 430mm Depth: 300mm The Dvd player is silver and on the front is a Lcd screen , on the right hand side and a centrally located disc drawer which emits a chime when operated. There are also the usual array of buttons i.e.; power , play, fast forward, rewind and eject.
Remote Control The remote control is a grey colour, with a red stand by button and a centrally located play button which has 4 triangular blue buttons surrounding it. The rest off the buttons are the usual collection of Stop,Pause,Skip Scene Skip forward & Backwards, Chapter Skip forward&backward. Set-up control button, Zoom etc. The unusual thing about this remote is you can change the language on the film ( with out entering the set-up mode),you can also control the volume of the movie with out using the TV remote.
When you switch the Dvd player on you are greeted with a welcome screen which has a blue background with DVD Video in the centre in a gold colour, also at the bottom is a message in white writing stating If you are experiencing any problems with this DVD player then please phone the Tesco help line then underneath is the help line number.
Set-up The set-up menu screen is very easy to follow, the main screen is divided into 5 sections, General set-up Speaker set-up Dolby digital set-up Dolby surround set-up Preferences Each section has a number of sub sections ( as the Dolby sections are just for sound we will concentrate on the other 2 sections which are more important for setting up the player)
General Set-up TV Display: normal or wide screen TV Type: Pal or Ntsc or Auto Pic Mode: Auto , Hi Res , No flicker Video Mode: RGB , YUV VIDEO Angle Mark: On or Off OSD Language; English , French , German etc Audio Out: Analogue , SPDIF/RAW , SPDIF/PCM Caption: On or Off Screen Saver: On or Off
Preferences This is where you set the subtitle language , password , parental guide ( this will stop films being played that you may not want children to see).
As you can see even though it is an inexpensive DVD player it is rich in features , and has all the same qualities of a much more expensive brand name model.
