    Let's start with the positives. Now, onto the negatives - sorry, I should perhaps mention that Dark Castle begins with promise, as initially there are four routes to choose from, and that it features "Toccata & Fugue in D minor". But it's the only music throughout play, and each of the paths to be picked by the peasant are as pathetic as one another. There are three difficulty settings, as well as options to switch the music or sound effects off, and you'll consider the latter after encountering the cyclops/evil eye type creatures - their "Nenenenenene!" cries are sure to drive you up the wall ... more

    Advantages Advantages You can use the cartridge as a door wedge. Maybe.

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Everything. Crap graphics, sound and controls.

    Dark Castle can be called crap almost entirely because of the really awful control system. Of course, it has other flaws as well (and lots of them), but this is the most unforgivable one. To start with, up and down don't move you up and down. They just move your arm up and down, meaning you can walk along looking like you're doing a Nazi salute. The point behind this is to aim; since you kill things by throwing stones at them. Unfortunately, this isn't easy because your arm moves really slowly, the baddies move quite fast, and you can't achieve every angle required to hit some of them. So, how ... more
