Finally a game since Halo that has taken the bits we all like about FPS's, the actual shooting, the cover modes, upgrading etc and added its own story and ... ...a well made if slightly simple game but you know that this is building up to something. It is a clever way of getting the gamer used to the controls without creating an overload by giving them another object to get used to right at the start (the glaive).

Finally a game since Halo that has taken the bits we all like about FPS's, the actual shooting, the cover modes, upgrading etc and added its own story and gameplay to it! To begin with it comes across as a well made if slightly simple game but you know that this is building up to something. It is a clever way of getting the gamer used to the controls without creating an overload by giving them another object to get used to right at the start (the glaive).
As soon as you get hold of the Glaive which is basically a big throwing star with curved blades, it is like another game altogether! The blade give you the ability to slash people up at close range, chop them into pieces at range, charge it up with electricity and fire, trigger buttons and generally amuse yourself for the rest of the game.
The best bit is when you can get control of the flight almost like a fly-by-wire missile, allowing you to fly around corners or even better over any cover the enemy have taken to remove their bonce without leaving yourself open to lead poisoning.
Oh yeah, also bouncing back enemy projectiles with your shield in their direction, limited use as usually they have already caught a glaive in their teeth but can be amusing too. The way that you can use a pistol and blade together makes for many different take down options and helps protect you if your blade is busy somewhere.
The story is actually good as well, won't enlighten everyone in this review too much as that is what playing the game is for but it features Michael Rosenbaum's (Lex - Smallville) voice as the main character Hayden Tenno. Involves all the great plot builders needed, revenge, virus, zombies and face mask wielding henchmen all the way through.
One more thing, the grenades really go bang! No more of this hollow thump and a small fireball followed by smoke, these actually make you jump if the sound is up on your tv and then blow you into constituent parts if you are foolish enough to be sitting on one at the time.
Advantages: The Glaive! Disadvantages: Sometimes hard to find multiplayer games.
This is an excellent game. At first it just seems like a standard, run of the mill 3rd Person Shooter, but then you get the Glaive. This is a three pronged disk which you can throw to unleash death to all your foes! The Glavie really brings this game into it's own. You are now able to throw the Glaive and cut peoples heads off, arms etc, you can throw it into an element e.g. fire and the Glaive will thus catch fire burning all your foes! This can ...

... And then trips over its feet on the final lap. This is actually one of PS3's prettiest games.
Its moody, horror-lite environments are huge, and ripple with gothic detail brought to life by some thunderous action. If your familiar with Gears Of War on Xbox360, you're in the small ball park, except DarkSector packs much more colour. Straight shootouts aren't hugely dynamic, but the cover system proves reliably solid. Then there are Tenno's growing mutant powers. Soon, you develop the power to steer the glaive mid-flight with the six axis, or charge it up with elemental powers (fire, ice, electricity) that turn it into a deadly bomb.
Hayden himself generates a shield that flings projectiles back at attackers, and eventually gains full-on invisibility for skulking around and performing crushing one-hit kills.
