Manufacturer's product description
Datalogic Skorpio-GUN provides industry leading reliability and ruggedness. It is designed for use in hostile environments and resists multiple drops and physical abuse. Excellent ergonomics and light weight package reduce operator fatigue, while long lasting Li-ION batteries grant full shift autonomy. The powerful laser reader integrated with "green spot" displays good read feedback directly on the code being scanned, simplifying the operator's activities. The Long Range laser reading option allows code reads from arms length to several meter distances. Datalogic Skorpio-GUN system architecture couples the fastest Intel X-Scale series processors with the latest Windows CE operating system release. While the latest RF security protocols such as WPA and WPA2 keep data secure, with Cisco Compatible Extensions (CCX) Version 3 is possible to leverage all the advantages offered by a Cisco WLAN infrastructure. Datalogic Skorpio-GUN's high visibility color graphic display with touch screen helps users work more efficiently. The practical alphanumeric keypad allows data and descriptions to be quickly input. Datalogic Skorpio-GUN fulfills 100% of traditional terminal emulation applications through the DL-TCL-NET software client. The most modern Web-based solutions exploit Microsoft Internet Explorer through the DL Locked-Web-Browser application. Datalogic Skorpio-GUN responds to the market need for a device with a pistol grip, that is light and well balanced, compact and robust, with the latest generation of hardware, software and wireless communication.

Advantages: Maximum power, minimal rack space Disadvantages: No external SCSI connector
...I recently purchased several of these boxes and they continue to impress. Being only 1U in size, they're ideal when you need lots of servers and space is at a premium.
It's good to get a 1U server that still has hot plug drives. I'm not so keen on the lower spec'd DLs that have the fixed drives, or even the ATA drives. The only thing that is a slight nusience is that there is no external scsi connector. If you're looking for a small server to drive, say for instance backups on a tape library, then you're going to need to fit another scsi card, or just buy a DL380 instead.
They have also done a good job with the power cables. Angled cables to help with cabling multiple 1U server together.
The only other thing that can be annoying is the rails that come with the server. They're a bit fiddly compared to a DL380, and they don...

Advantages: Takes 6 disks in a 2U package Disadvantages: Not a great deal
...The DL380 is the main staple of the server estate for my current company, the server is into it’s 4th generation and this review focuses on the 3rd generation. For some reason I think because they are thin but wide and long they got named pizza boxes. This review is on the G3 model of the 360 there is now a G4 model available but I have not seen any of these as yet.
The DL380 comes from the density optimized line, this means that there are some sacrifices that are made to package the server smaller. DL servers aren’t typically as expandable as the ML line servers and can only be rack mounted, typical applications for the DL380 are departmental file/print servers, and small data base servers.
********** Specification*************
The DL380 is at the mid low end of the DL range and will accept either 1 or 2 Intel Zeon processors ranging...

Advantages: Slimline, only takes a few U's in the Rack. very reliable. Disadvantages: The new HP Smartstart is not as easy to understand as the original version.
...For those of you who aren't aware HP have taken over Compaq and rebadged compaq Servers with the HP badge.
This is just an upgrade to the Compaq Proliant DL380 G2.
You are still getting one of the most reliable servers in the industry for the right price.
They have also rectified the problem on the last model where there was only 4 bays for hard disks , there are now 6 bays, a FDD and a CD drive.
The server is a slimline model and for those of you who rack their servers, this is ideal as it only takes a few U in the rack.
I have built several of these without any real problems and all have been stable once built.
The only critisimn I can make is that Smartstart, a compaq utility to assist you in building these servers, has been rebadged, HP smartstart and given an overall and so far im not impressed, the screens don't flow...
