Of course, it's the wonderful 'Dave'...the artist formerly known as UKTV G2. Not exactly the most exciting of sounding television channels, so they glamourised it...by called it 'Dave'...because everyone knows a Dave.
The concept of the channel is simply a station airing predominantly repeats of entertainment and comedy shows. It doesn't air 24-hours a day, instead it tends to broadcast until approximately 3am each night, and then restarts at 7am, with a bit of mind-boggling Teleshopping thrown in there for good measure.
But what does it show? Well during the day it plays repeats of entertainment shows such as Top Gear, Ray Mear's Extreme Survival, Trawlermen, Traffic Cops and Fifth Gear; all seemingly quite 'manly' shows aimed at blokes called 'Dave' presumably...
As the day's schedule moves on it tends to focus on the comedy genre, when shows such as QI, Mock The Week, Live From The Apollo and Have I Got News For You find time in the running order. These differ in age from being the previous series to being a few years old, and therefore a lot of the topical jokes at the time may not make sense any longer.
But don't let that knock the shows. the likes of the comedy shows above are award winning and feature high class comedians. The daytime shows such as Top Gear have also won awards and then have a deserved place of the schedule.
But then the problem lies with there are only so many episodes to go around and seemingly too many hours to fill. Therefore expect to see repeats of these repeats...hardly a great way to sell a TV channel but that's the bottom line unfortunately. However over the past year they've attempted to produce their own unique programming. They intriguingly have the coverage of the World Rally Championships and have begun making comedy shows such as Argumental.
Of course, if you only watch the channel sporadically then the repeats of repeats are nothing to worry about. I tend to watch Top Gear in the daytime if I'm at home and nothing else is on - generally I'll have seen the episode but if they're showing a quite old one it's always good to see it again, or if it's a really recent one then I may not have seen it. In the evenings I've become a big fan of QI having never really watched it during it's original runs on the BBC, and now they've started showing the likes of Spaced (see review of Spaced for more!!) then the more content the merrier.
It's available on Freeview channel 19, along with Dave-ja-vu on 25, and you can watch Dave on Sky channel 111. If there's nothing else on then you can generally expect something to be on Dave...or if there's something good on, expect to see it on Dave in six months!
Advantages: Always something to watch for 5 while you eat tea Disadvantages: Its just another channel, nothing special
Always something on Dave ! Ok so its Top gear, QI, or Mock the Week but its always on ! Getting the bad element out the way first, its not much good when the same episode of QI is on every day of the week at the same time all week. Saying this, places like comedy central are only as bad for their repititons of South Park constantly. Saying this, Dave ( which im reliably told is named after Lister from Red Dwarf) always has something entertaining ... ...mainly comedy). I find myself unable to say much more and i think that is Daves biggets downfall ... is just another rerun channel. It really is no different to when it was UKTV Gold 2. Saying that it does have a witty +1 channel ... Dave Ja Vu ! ...

Advantages: Very funny, good just before bed humour Disadvantages: BBC 2 and late - this should be prime time programming!
Who would have thought that a television series where you talk about yourself throughout the whole series would be interesting? What about funny? Well, I guess Richard and Judy have managed it for years...
Anyway, back to the subject. Dave Gorman is a Perrier 2000 nominated comedian who has come up with a TV concept that is to find the average Dave Gorman.
Does it sound interesting yet?
The series was inspired with the help of a bottle of tequila and his flatmate, all combining to make the strangest of bets... Dave and his flatmate have travelled around the UK and abroad to meet all Dave Gormans, to find out what the average Dave Gorman looks like, how old he is and where he lives.
The series has been hilarious so far, Dave's natural humour and comedy timing make this series of multimedia lecture-style programs very ...
Advantages: Very Funny and probably fascinating if your name is Dave Gorman Disadvantages: Always put on at a late time - deserves prime time slot on BBC1!
This is what happens when you get too drunk. Let this be a warning to all of you. Like Tony Hawks who drunkenly bet that he could travel all over Ireland with a fridge, Dave Gorman is perhaps not someone who should drink. He would have saved himself and awful lot of money at the very least. But perhaps I should start at the beginning. It started like this….
While Dave Gorman was in a pub getting drunk one day he had an argument with his best mate Danny that the Assistant Manager of East Fife football team was called Dave Gorman. Danny disagreed and so they travelled to Scotland to meet him and to allow Dave Gorman to have his photograph taken with Dave Gorman. That was just the beginning. Danny (best mate and handy cameraman) bet Dave that he couldn’t find 54 Dave Gormans, one for every card in a pack (including ...
Advantages: Very Funny Disadvantages: Maybe an aquired taste.
BBC Choice is not exactly the channel that comes to mind when you mention ground breaking comedy, but having watched the Dave Gorman Collection on Choice my opinion of the channel is on the up, probably because it is about to become BBC3. However as not to confuse this programme is now running on BBC2 on Sunday evenings, at 10.45pm repeating its Choice run.
The concept of this programme will not sound funny in the slightest, it involves Dave Gorman the presenter travelling the world looking for other people called Dave Gorman, to see if he can find as many Dave Gormans as possible and to plot the information on a graph so he can calculate mpdg (miles per dave gorman). He hopes the MPDG falls within a certain area on the graph, so he is not doing too much or too little MPDG? The programme revolves around Dave Gorman telling ...
