Intro

On the 3rd of December I reached the dizzy old age of 55 and as she did last year with Joop my wife bought me another fragrance. This time it was Instinct by David Beckham, a young good looking sporting star, YEP I know you have spotted the resemblance already. It is only in the last few years that I have actually began to take fragrances a bit more serious. I’ve always liked a good smelling aftershave, but in general I don’t or didn’t use them very often. The Joop all gone I hadn’t purchased a replacement, well I did but it went straight into the bin, it’s name was Musk by Jovan and I foolishly purchased over the net without first having sampled the fragrance. On arrival a quick little sniff had it in the bin in record time.

Becks

The Beckham brand is one of the most recognisable on the market and praise must be given to David and Victoria and their team. Whether you like them or not they had been an add mans dream and hence made lots of dosh. You can’t blame them for cashing in on their popularity especially David whom, I have (and am not scared to admit) admired for both his football skills and in general being quite a good roll model for kids. In the last few years they have expanded the brand Beckham into the perfumery department and with a great deal of success. Although it says by David Beckham on the packaging and bottle I am in no doubt that David did not actually create this fragrance at least not without a great deal of help from some very good experts.

Instinct

The 50ml bottle of Instinct cost £9.99 in Superdrug, and compared to other prices quoted in various off and online retailers a good deal by all accounts. I’m not into base tones middle tones and all the other gunf associated with the description of fragrances so I’m just going to tell you what it smells like in plain terms. The first thing I noticed was a delicate citrus tone, which after a short spell was quickly met by some subtle spices. There is a hint of woodiness but as with the Joop, which I received last year, it is probably the bergamot that seals the deal for me, being that it would appear to be the only common factor in both fragrances. The longevity of Instinct is excellent I can still smell it hours after its initial application. It is a very nice and refreshing EDT which if one of the few my wife likes. This is probably another reason why I have never bothered much with nice niffy stuff, she never likes what I like with the obvious exception of Joop and Instinct.

Summary

So for another few months I feel that I’m going to smell pretty good again, I like Instinct a lot whether as much as Joop is still in the balance, but it is definitely a fragrance I would have again and one I enjoy using. Perhaps my recent infatuation with aftershaves and the like is simply a struggle to find the youthful Don who seems somewhat distant these days. It is nice however to smell nice and the wearing of Instinct will certainly have you doing that.
