"death of a great author"

I must admit it took me a while to get into his books the first few books from him I felt had no humor and were a bit to dark those books being Pawn of a prophet and queen of sorcery but later books develop better characters like silk and malldorean.

In the beginnings of his book he goes through the history of the regions that belgarion and his family travel through.

I only found this out later his wife leigh eddings co-wrote with him on quite a few of his books and you can notice a slight change in story telling I would not be able to tell you who is who but one of them has a good sense of humor,

I only started reading his books late last year and was sad to hear that he had died in june 2009. One of his characters silk also know as Prince keldar had a strong enough character that he could have had a book of his own rather than just polgara a sorceress and Belgareth.Silk is one these people that always makes funny outrageous comments but do not make him mad because he can easily turn to the cuthroat side of him

He has written two series revolving around a character named Garion(belgarion) who job is to go on a quest to fight the child of dark.

It was only by accident that he decided to write in the fantasy genre after he saw the lord of the rings books and it was only then that he started becoming well known.

From the few pictures I have seen his characters Belgareth and Pogara seem to resemble him and his wife leigh eddings. If he is anything like Belgareth he is a very drunk moody person.

His books will take a while to get use too and they are long but I would recommend you read his books.

here are some books he has done

Pawn of Prophecy (1982)
Queen of Sorcery (1982)
Magician's Gambit (1983)
Castle of Wizardry (1984)
Enchanters' End Game (1984)

Prince keldar

Prince Keldar is a famous merchant and he is not famous in a good way he cheats people of there hard earned money. To adapt to his situation of being on the run all the time he has to go in disguise all the time and like a great actor as soon as he puts on the character he wants to become there is an instant transformation and he becomes that character. His comments can be offensive yet funny at the same time.A book done on him could go into the different characters he has become.
He is also a spy so it could go into what stuff has been revealed to him.

P.S thanks for all your comments and constructive criticism.

Welcome to Ciao! I was unaware of his death . . . I am not fond of books where you MUST read the next book in a series to learn what comes next and to get to the conclusion; however the stand-alone books showed great inventiveness on his part and that of his wife; I also enjoyed the Elder gods and younger gods series more recently concluded . . . does his wife still live? perhaps she will have confidence to write . . . &#9829 jesi &#9829

Short review but the content is sufficient to know that this genre is not my cup of tea.

David and Leigh Eddings The Redemption of Althalus

David and Leigh Eddings The Redemption of Althalus

Althalus was just a thief, and only a good thief by the standards of the backwoods and ... more

hick towns where he spent most of his career; a
trip to the big cities of the lowlands almost
proved disastrous for him, because he could
recognise neither real threats nor even more
sophisticated forms of wealth. Hired to steal a
magic book, he finds himself imprisoned by a
talking cat and subjected to the extensive
education that will make him leader of humanity's
fight back against a death god and his cadre of
thugs. Much of what is best in The Redemption of
Althalus has to do with the process whereby he
recruits his team--a spoiled princess, a witch
rescued from the stake, a barbarian warrior and a
street urchin with the brain of a great
strategist; once the team is in place and their
fight back against conquest and sinister magic
begins, victory is more or less assured and a
matter of watching a thoroughly entertaining
process. It is interesting to see Eddings working
on a smaller canvas than usual--there is a
fundamental niceness to his books that entirely
gets its head here, along with an attractive sense
of humour.--Roz Kaveney
