Advantages: For once, this is the story of the "villian." Disadvantages: You will never be able to put the book down!
This book, a truly fascinating read, is one of Gemmell's finest yet. It offers page after page of drama, passion, bravery and every now and again you will find yourself chuckling at the dark humour. This is no normal hero book, Waylander does not ride a White Stallion or wear silver armour. Waylander, is a man of mystery with a dark past and skill for killing with his deadly crossbow. However, once, long ago, he was known as Dakeyras, a pleasant family man. After watching his family murdered, Waylander the Slayer was born. This story takes you on the road to Waylanders redemption and acceptance. He is one of Gemmells finest creations yet along with Druss and Connavar. Overall it is a must read for any Gemmell or fantasy fans. ...

Advantages: Fast paced lively books with truly memorable characters Disadvantages: Gemmell can sometimes 'recycle' sequences between books
Being the proud owner of every single DavidGemmell book, I'd like to think I'm qualified to write an opinion on him - "The Finest Living Writer of Heroic Fantasy".

Looking at my bookshelf to the left of me, I can visualise each and every one of the main characters from Gemmell's books. His characterisation is truly masterful, and one cannot help but feel for the often reluctant heroes who often shift between many shades of grey. Gemmell has stated that he gains his inspiration for characters from real people; perhaps this is what makes them so believable. I won't refer to any specific ...
