Spanier an old master
Review of Total Poker - David Spanier by
BIGHORSE
Advantages: Superb about every aspect and all types of poker
Disadvantages: N/A
...If you are a fan of any kind of poker, then this book is simply a must read. Not only does Spanier list and describe in detail many alternative forms of this king of card games, he tells some fantastic stories and describes a couple of scams that he has heard about that have been used on others which have worked and they are absolutely mouthwatering. Spanier was a true stalwart of the game himself before his untimely death some time after the fantastic 2000 WSOP (world series of poker) last year. I read the book in one sitting, and could not put it down, despite having a university final the following morning....

Last effort from a poker legend
Review of The Hand I Played - David Spanier by
BIGHORSE
Advantages: Well-written, diverse
Disadvantages: Not everyone's cuppa no doubt
...When I describe David Spanier as a poker legend (he is now deceased), I do not do so in reference to his actual play of the game of poker. He, himself, was one of the first to admit that he was no great player of the game, but he was a great appreciator of the game, and an excellent journalist who has written many valuable articles and some excellent books on the subject. He was also a great ambassador for the game - of that there is no doubt.
Fitting, then, perhaps, that his last book, published posthumously, should be his autobiography, hence the title, The Hand I Played. I am well aware that poker is a minority interest, although it is growing fast throughout the UK and is no longer becoming the domain of middle-aged/old men smoking cigars and drinking whisky. Therefore, not all of you that read this will appreciate what I am talking...

Sickening Abuse
Review of A Child Called It - Dave Pelzer by
gill1960
Advantages: None
Disadvantages: Everything
...The Author of this book is called David Pelzer. In David’s case he is the only one out of three worst cases on child abuse in California state history that survived to tell the story of child abuse.
The title of the book is “A child called it”
In the book “A child called it” we take a look at the kind of life David had living with his mother from the ages of 4 to 12.
David’s young life had been a fairly normal one, until he reached the age of four. Then things changed forever.
In his true story he gives versions of the true events that took place in his family home.
When David was four, his mother unintentionally broke his arm whilst she was in one of her drunken states. David was taken upstairs to bed, but he was put in the top bunk of the bunk beds instead of his usual place on the bottom bunk. The next morning, she told him...
