I first used hair wax in my teen years, when I got bored of using the gel that made your hair look like you had dipped it in a deep fat fryer. However, not long later I was back on the gel. . . mainly as at that time my mum was doing the shopping and she always bought gel!
The last year or so though, and being away from home has lead to greater freedom in my choice of hair products and have to say this is by far the best of the ones I have tried!
I have been through the Garnier Fructis Surf Hair, V05 Extreme Hold as well as various Brylcreem and others (and I must admit most of these have been stolen (or "borrowed") from others - I do not go through a tub every couple of weeks!). However, Dax Wave and Groom seems to be the best one around.
First off, it is strikingly packaged and instantly recognisable - looking like a tin that should be containing something much more glamorous than hair wax! The tin just has all the usual guff you find on such things - "made especially for short hair", "hair must be perfectly clean" and most funny of all "use Dax Vegetable Extract Shampoo"!!!
The product is sort of yellowy in colour, and as with most waxes is pretty hard set in the tin - something akin to the texture of a soft cheese that has been left in the fridge too long!
The smell, however, is certainly not cheesy! It is a very pleasant smell, although it is very difficult to describe. It is not like anything else I have ever smelt, but certainly not unpleasant!
It says on the tin you should apply liberally, using your palms to heat the wax and then rubbing into your hair. This is odd, as usually these things say you only need a little amount (meaning you should buy their product as it will last ages!). Dax, however, overstate how much you need, and you really do not need to apply liberally. A little amount certainly goes a long way.
When applied your hair does not look greasy, rather it looks as though your hair always sets in that style, although if you do put liberal amounts in you can tell there is a product in.
It is difficult to wash out, as it is a waterproof wax - this is useful in one way as the first time you step outside it doesn't either blow off or wash away - but when you want to wash it out, or more annoyingly, when you want to get it off your hands it takes a lot of washing.
It really will hold your style all day long, and doesn't necessarily need washing out if you want to restyle for the night.
It is not pricey either, at just £2.50 (that's what I paid from Tesco's - it can b e found cheaper elsewhere) it is good value, as I got a tub at Christmas, used it nearly every day and I have used maybe a quarter if the tin.
I would certainly recommend Dax to anybody who wants to style their shortish hair without looking like they have just been attacked with a pot of dripping.
Advantages: Price, hold, manipuability Disadvantages: Hard to wash out
A frequent user of DAX myself I find it to provide outstanding performance, If your hair gets flattened by someone pressing down on it or by wearing a helmet, no problem, just using you hands you can easily style your hair back to the way you want all day any time. Dax is fairly sticky and some people may find it difficult to apply at first, however it does get easier with practice. It says on the tin 'made especially for short hair' and this is ... ...thing about DAX , is it's very nice smell which is kinda like chocolate (but in a very good way!). Only problem is washing is out which I have a hard time doing with my shampoo. On the whole though, it is an excellent styling product at a fair price. ...

...stuff.
I wanted to try DAX WAX. Let's say the feeling was like having gum in your dry hair or partly dried glue. Not to mention the hands which is full of it (and propably still is).
The feeling is like vaseline, but LOT more sticky and impossible to rub in your hands (I was trying to warm it up with help of the friction) But hey..It's stays on place...for ever and ever and ever..
It's a big NONO. ...

...money as a tin of dax has lasted me a good couple of months with practically daily use. It's relatively cheap so I suggest you go check it out. There have been suggestions that dax Wave and Groom can result in hair loss if used too much and I can assure from personal use this is not the case. I still have a perfectly full head of hair. ...

Advantages: get the look you want Disadvantages: hairdresser's nightmare!
I am a person who takes alot of pride in my hair and try to use something that will give me the spikey style i want and hold it, and will not just slowly go flat over the day. Because of this i use Daxwave and groom, the stronger of the Dax products. I personally feel this wax is great, it is the strongest wax you will find. I think it is great as it moulds your hair just as you want it and does not give you that greasy look like most other products, it puts a really strong hold on your hair keeping it how you want through out the day and as it is wax also alows you to mould it if you want to change it unlike gel which just turns hard n can crumble to look like dandruff! Not only is the product good but so is the price as it is cheap and you can get alot out of it as it is not necessary to put that much in your hair because of its ...

Advantages: great lasting hold Disadvantages: damn hard to get out!!
This is a mini lifesaver!!! I have recently had my hair cut short - (much too short-u know hairdressers- scissor happy!!) and this is the only product I have found which makes it spikey, and stay that way. I have slighlty curly hair, and dax makes it stick up and stay srtaight. It is a bit of a nightmare to get out of your hair, once it is in though! Having read reviews on here, I have found out that you can buy special shampoo from Dax - however I cannot find this in any shops. I am using pantene claryfiying shampoo at the mo - it does remove it, only after you have washing it 3-4 times!!
All that said though, I would definatly reccommend this to anyone who has a short, messed up style. ...

Advantages: None at all Disadvantages: leaves you feeling and looking greasey, terrible to remove
for removing Dax Wax by the company itself. and it comes with one hell of a price. I myself didnt even bother purchasing this but remained in my shower for what seemed like a decade constantly shampooing my hair until i had run out of shampoo and still some wax remained.
HANDY TIP FOR DAX WAX USERS--- buying seperate conditoner from head and shoulders can remove dax wax alot easier. the 2 in 1 isnt as effective.
Compared with other Dax Products
I would just recommend sticking with the Dax "wave and groom" or the green tin wax at least it does its job properly and isnt such a barbaric disappointment. BUT no matter what type of dax you use it is gonna be hell to get it out of your hair unless your using a good brand of conditioner. ...
