Is there no end to my flaws? I won’t go into the many problems of pennii, but to add insult to injury, I have thick, naturally wavy hair. It won’t curl properly and I have to use brute force and many products to make it straight. I have the worst hair genes in the world. My hair is short and black, purposely cut and dyed so to give the illusion of sassy sleekness because when it’s long, I look like some footballer circa the 70’s.
And then there was Dax. I thought the only way to control my godawful mop was by spraying on half a can of hairspray and walking around with a completely immovable hairdo (I make it sound like I’m an absolute dog, but no I tell you).
Dax comes in 2 different tins for short hair: ‘Short and Neat’ (The blue tin) and ‘Short and Wavy’(The red tin). ‘Short And Wavy’ is REALLY thick and gloopy. It does straighten your hair and hold a style but you can say goodbye to your hands as you know ‘em, it makes them sticky and takes ages to wash off, a bit like trying to wash the oil off a roasting dish. ‘Short and Wavy’ and water do not seem to mix. Ditto your hair, on which you should apply the tiniest amount to have invisible hold. ‘Short And Neat’ is the product I use the most. It’s thinner and more liquid in consistency compared to the other one and I have no idea how to describe the smell, but it’s gently fragrant and not really suitable for blokes.
I don't need to slather on a lot, it spreads well and really straightens my hair out and gives it a shiny, happy healthy look, but I do have to remember to run my fingers through the front to stop the wave coming back. After applying to clean hair, you have to brush or comb it through for evenness and a natural look.
I haven’t been able to find Dax in any chemist, I had to go to an Indian shop in town that specialises in products for Afro hair. It costs a quid 39, which is an amazing price as it lasts for ages and is a brilliant wax.
