My first memory of Dax Wax - I had been with my partner for less than a month when I began to notice trails of stickiness on my pillows...greasy marks on my towel's and every surface around by room seemed to have a sweaty wet feel to it... No...it was all innocent - this is the trail that Dax wax leaves in it's wake!
I had actually purchased this for my partner as it was cheap in a shop called QLM, only £1.69 for a full sized metal tub. As he's obsessed with his hair I thought I would treat him.
He began using it almost immediately and found that it was surprisingly effective. As he had fairly long hair, most products were not much use, but Dax wax keeps its hold for much longer than most. In fact, it held his hair high all day long and soon became a firm favourite. I personally wasn't so keen on his using it as it left his hair feeling incredibly sticky to touch and running my hand through it was a near impossibility - somewhat like pulling a rake through a hedge!
As it was incredibly effective on his long hair I decided that I would give it a go too - my hair is long but my fringe is fairly wild so I often use wax and gel to hold it in place. Unfortunately I wasn't such a fan - as my hair is not very thick, I felt that it made it look greasy and lank, rather than being held in place nicely it looked as though I had dipped my head in a chip fryer! So, it's not so good for small area's of hair, more for the whole head.
That night, we got in bed as normal, having lightly washed our hair…
This was the start of the “DAX WAX PLAGUE” – it is almost impossible to remove from your head without scrubbing vigorously and it leaves its oily residue on any surface that it touches. On the plus side…you only had to put it on once and week and you could re-style everyday!! Very economical hair styling! Unfortunately work colleagues and friends began giving us funny looks, everyday we looked slightly worse...!
Well, we soon realised that it is an oil based wax and that is why it was such a chore to remove, until the ‘dax wax shampoo’ was discovered! Unfortunately this is not as widely available as the wax itself, so if you plan to buy the wax, keep your eyes peeled for the shampoo!
Another thing I wasn't keen on was the smell of Dax wax - it smells rather like car products, wax or cleaner? Not terribly pleasant. And it was also very difficult to remove from your hands once you had applied it without using a nail brush...which of course leads to the nailbrush being oily - and the vicious circle begins...
All in all, the wax was very effective on my partner’s long hair – keeping its hold all day (and all night…) and it was a fairly inexpensive product. But, when purchasing it you must also consider the cost of the accompanying shampoo!

This sounds as bad as Toni & Guy TX Wax. It's a bitch to remove once it's been put in and makes my hair look greasy. Great review. I'll be avoiding this and sticking with my Gructis Glue. Steve :o)
