After I was introduced to this product 4 years ago I have become an avid fan. As a student I didn't have the money to splash out on 10 pound styling products that are going to last me a week so when I found Dax Wax it was a total life saver (a bit more cash to go to the night out funds!).
Wax Dax seems to be one of those mysterious products that has been around for ages but is a total secret and is VERY hard to find. It has no advertising campaigns that I have ever seen and is a very low-key company. After hearing about it from a friend that had got one through a friend in America! I managed to track it down. My first tin was bought from a small import shop in a very out of the way place. So what happened next?
Upon opening my first tin I found a wax that was so hard I could even make an indent in it so I left it to heat on a radiator thinking that it was supposed to be like gel. When I came back and tested I found it to be like chewing gum but decided to take my chances and try it out. After applying the amount that I can describe only as around 2 peas size my hair was standing proudly up towards the skies. After many hours of trying to master this new "thing" (and I mean thing as it is unlike anything I have ever seen before) I managed to control it. My hair being around 4 inches finally found its match in dax. If your thinking of a punk or and type of vertical style buy a tub of this stuff!
So what are the pros and cons?
First off lets talk about the cons. It's hard to find, It takes ages to clean out of your hair and hands and takes a bar of soap in the process, Probably will kill my hair by the age of 30 :)
So now lets get to the pros. First of all the price is around 1.50 a tub. This will last me around 7 months to a year. After applying on the Monday I can go the whole week with only ONE slight touch up (and that's washing my hair everyday!). When you're out you never have the worry of your hair getting messed up or the wind blowing it out of style, which can happen with some gels. You don't have a problem in hot places and weather as I have fully tested it in the boiling sun on holiday without getting the horrible leak you usually get with gel. BEST OF ALL!! It's WATER PROOF!!! Taking this with me when I went on holiday was my best decision. I was in out of the pool & sea all day without having to restyle or top up.
Also another tip that I found which might be useful for people with punk type vertical hairstyles. If you get your hair razor cut and then just rubbing the top layer of the tub and applying it to your hair you can get vertical strong hold hair without the brushing through and loads of wax in your hair. Plus it makes your tub last a lifetime ;)
